Wall Hanging3655/12

Rectangular wall hanging. The ground is divided into 9 sections with larger middle column and row. The centre row has light grey-beige centre with thin light grey-beige and green sides. The two end rows are green with light grey-beige and solid green sides. The sides have repeating light orange-pink triangles. Along each end is three diamonds, two small orange diamonds and a large orange-pink diamond at centre. Each end finished with a band of light orange, and then looped fringe with green on each side and grey-beige at centre. Tag sewn on back, 'SALISH WEAVING / HANDCRAFTED - FRASER VALLEY / BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA'.

Off-white wool blanket, or robe, with fringe along bottom edge; two long ties attached to top. Central design of an olive green diamond, with stepped edges and a pink hourglass in the centre; bordered with connected triangles. Lines of connected triangles extend from sides of blanket, towards centre; upper lines end before diamond, lower lines meet to form "V" shape close to bottom edge. Border of repeating hourglass-shapes along top, connected with a horizontal line; bottom edge of blanket trimmed with a checkered pink and solid brown line. Additional triangles underneath upper border; all triangles done in dark brown.

Hat3656/23

Double-walled basketry hat with root exterior and cedar bark interior; hat is dome-shaped, with an indented top that has a plaited square of cedar bark. Top and bottom edges are trimmed with twined bands; one along top, two along bottom. Three decorative bands across exterior (from top to bottom): alternating purple and yellow diagonal lines, trimmed with alternating yellow and blue vertical lines; yellow steps on a purple ground; and alternating green and yellow diagonal lines. Interior lined with three yellow bands trimmed with dark purple; top band is darker yellow, bottom two are same shade. Hat band woven into interior.

Hat3656/24

Woven hat with interior woven headband. The domed hat has a flat top with a four large squares woven at centre. There are five decorative bands: the top three are purple=grey and off-white on the exterior (faded purple and dark blue), and the lower two are dark brown. Above the rim and lower dark brown band is a large strip of cedar bark woven in.

Digging Stick3656/17

Digging stick with a broad, slightly curved blade on one side. There is a raised section dividing the handle from the blade. The handle is wrapped with bark, and there is another raised protuberance at the end.

Wood club with a long cylindrical barrel, short shaft and handle - each section separated by raised knob with another at the end. The barrel is carved and painted with four winds designs, a fish, and a water fowl set between a black and red snake that is wrapped around the barrel. The designs are painted red and black on a white background. The barrel tapers in slightly to a cylindrical knob carved with zigzag designs. The handle is carved and painted with an upside-down face. There is string tied around end knob.

Kwelas3644/2 a-b

Small lidded pot with burnished finish. Pot (part a) has a wide mouth, and sloped and rounded shoulder that narrows to a small flat base. Artist signature, date made, and title incised on base. Large circular lid (part b) is decorated across exterior surface with formline motifs, done in relief. Centre of design consists of a face with wide eyes, straight brows, large nose, and an open mouth with the tongue sticking out; markings on forehead and cheeks. Face is surrounded by a wide band, with protruding split U-shapes that extend to edge of lid. Lid has a long lip that curves downward; flange closer to centre of interior. Exterior surfaces of pot and lid range in colour from off-white to black; speckling throughout. Interiors are smooth and somewhat rough in texture; coloured light grey.

Hanging3639/5 a-d

Weaving (part a) with hanging bar (parts b-d). Weaving has ground of natural white wool; design features a central rectangle consisting of columns of chevrons trimmed with triangles along the top and bottom edges. Red-brown, grey, and checked bands divide the columns. Chevrons are done in rows and alternate directions; done in black, white, and mint green. Top and bottom sides of rectangle are trimmed with white bands with red-brown triangles of varying sizes. Right side of box bordered with thin band of semi-circles and a striped line; left side has wavy lines with solid and dual-coloured diamonds. White, with red-brown, fringe along left, right and bottom edges; hanging pocket sewn on back, along top edge. Hanging bar (part b) consists of cylindrical rod with two animal heads on either end, to prevent weaving from sliding off (parts c-d). Animals are open-mouthed and their facial features are made up of formline design elements.

Small ovular basket with imbricated designs across exterior, single-row foot, and cross-hatched rim. Walls of basket flare slightly outward from base, making opening larger than foot. Designs consist of inverted, concentric triangles, that extend from opening towards middle of basket. Done in black, red-brown, and light yellow-white; centres of triangles are light yellow-white. Two crosses extend from tips of each triangle; done in black with light yellow-white centres. Identical cross patterns in between triangles; done in red-brown with light yellow-white centres. Rim of opening, along exterior walls, decorated with naturally coloured cherry bark. Base and interior are undecorated.

Spindle Whorl3621/3 a-b

Wooden spindle and whorl consisting of a disc with a central hole (part a) and long wooden spindle (part b). The whorl is convex on one side, and flat on the other. The spindle shaft narrows at each end, and one end is wider than the other.
