Object is a pair of moccasins, the fronts of which have blue, red-brown, and white beads. Cuffs are red wool; rawhide ties are natural. Very fine pair: spot stitch, side seam. Probably Plains Cree from Rocky Boy Reservation, which is nearby Glacier National Park, Montana, where these were collected.
Sioux, Northern Crow or Cheyenne pouch or strike-a-light bag for use by a woman. It might also have been used to carry ration tickets- the small chits handed out by Government Agents entitling people to food rations during the Reservation Period. It is decorated with Venetian beads, sinew sewn. It is Cheyenne in workmanship with a Sioux type design.
Consultants agreed this shirt was probably Metis or Santee (Eastern Sioux) made in the late 1800s. Style derived from Red River Métis sometimes called Eastern Sioux or Crow. Beadwork has long, spidery look i.e. Crow design where the flower sets in. So may be a mix- Métis inspired Eastern Sioux or Crow. Collar was originally navy blue now faded. The shirt might have been made for army personnel, as this was a popular souvenir to acquire.
Beaded bark napkin ring. A green, yellow, and orange bead maple leaf and a red, white and blue Union Jack flag are stitched onto a long strip of yellowish bark that is rolled up and held tight with a seam of stitched brown, white and blue beads. Red, white, and blue beads decorate the rims.
Flat rectangular beaded skin bag with long flat fringes. The beaded light brown fabric panel, with black fabric edging, and a longer skin panel are sewn together on three sides, leaving the top open, and the top of the back skin piece is folded forward and stitched along the edge to created a belt loop. The design within the white bead background is four black-bordered green triangular shapes around a blue centre dot inside a large black and blue circle.
Flat rectangular beaded skin bag with wide fringes. Skin panels, the back one longer than the front, are sewn together on three sides, leaving the top open, and have a dark blue fabric lining. Blue beadwork that covers all of the front panel and the upper scalloped part of the back piece has designs that include white and navy crosses, triangles of orange, green and navy, and a navy border. Small loop of dark thread is attached to the top of the back panel.
Large red vest with beaded front, skin ties, and skin fringe around waist. Vertical rows of pink, light green, dark green and black glass bead crosses, squares, and other motifs set within a while bead background are sewn onto two panels of light brown fabric with a border of the same red wool fabric used for the back panel. Along the back, at the waist, is a strip of striped cream, black and red fabric (Hudson Bay blanket ?) and long strips of deer skin are attached at the shoulders.
Beaded fabric belt with rawhide ties at both ends. A front panel of beige fabric, stitched with strung beads to create three black, red and blue geometric triangle designs in a white ground, has a red fabric backing that folds around the edges in a border that has a few white beads sewn on along the edges of the design motifs.
Long pipe bag with beaded geometric design and long fringe, tied near top with skin strip. Yellow skin bag has four deep, black and white bead rimmed scallops and turquoise bead rimmed diamond shaped cut-outs at the top end and a seam down one side, A heavy beadwork panel encircling the bottom, above the thick fringe, has a different design in a white ground on each side, one with expanded crosses in turquoise, mustard yellow, red and purple beads, the other with a small square of pink and purple dividing two crosses on top of three mountains in turquoise, red and yellow.
