Round quill-covered basket with lid. Basket and lid are made of birch bark, with side walls cut and bent to snuggly fit the circular base/top, covered on the exterior with designs made from quills dyed blue and yellow, along with undyed white. The central design on the lid top is a 10-point star in blue with yellow centre and accents. It is surrounded by triangles of white quill inside a yellow circle, and a repeating series of gathered quill groupings around the edge, with yellow and blue stars shapes above and below the star. This is repeated in larger size along the sides of the lid, as well as the lower wall of the basket bottom (part a). Base has an undecorated, inset rim to hold the lid. quill-covered basket with lid. Gorget1590/276

Very deep crescent-shaped gorget with rolled edge. In the centre is an engraved oval-shaped cartouche containing three fleur-de-lys. To either side of the oval is a branch with leaves and berries, and above a crown. Hanging from bottom edge of the gorget are four silver and three gold engraved beaver effigies. Hole fitted with purple skin strips at each upper edge. Maker’s mark below each suspension hole and on each beaver.

Beaver Pendant1590/275

A hollow beaver pendant with bottom plate. Beaver has eyes, ears, paws and cross-hatched tail. There is a ring in the nose. The bottom has a heart-shaped opening.

Necklace1590/292

A necklace of 88 white glass beads and 12 green beads strung on wire. There is a large Latin cross with cloverleaf terminals, a sunburst engraved in the centre and zigzag engraving on the border. Two solid beavers hang on each side of the cross. Maker’s mark stamped on cross and beavers.

Necklace1590/291

Necklace of beads, snakes and cross. 96 cylindrical red glass beads and 91 smaller round flat white beads alternate in a pattern. 4 double snake and 4 single snake pendants alternate between the beads on the lower half of the necklace. The double snakes cross over at two points. All snakes are attached to bead strand by rings through the mouth. They are etched with cross pattern along their length. A Lorraine cross with cloverleaf terminals hangs from the centre point. A sunburst is engraved in the centre of the top bar. Curvilinear marks on vertical and lower horizontal bar. Maker’s mark JA on snakes and AB in a circle on lower bar of cross.

Necklace of 60 light blue glass beads in groups of 4 and 2, alternating with 16 cobalt blue glass beads and 6 cylindrical yellow glass beads,. 6 hollow silver beavers with bottom plates are attached at regular intervals to lower half of necklace. A flat silver Latin cross with circle and zigzag border is attached at bottom midpoint. One cobalt blue bead is broken. Maker’s mark in cartouche on beavers and on cross. The crown is above the “TE”.
