Listed on page 46 in "The Exhibits of the Smithsonian Institution at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, San Francisco, California, 1915", in section "Arts of the Northwest Coast Tribes (Tools)".
FROM CARD: "BIRDS, COPPER-BACKS."List in accession file (these objects are #s 41 and 42 on list) identifies these objects as "Two ornaments representing hummingbirds worn on dancing hat or robe of wood [?, might he mean wool, not wood?] covered with copper backs ornamentally beaten in eyes +c [word not very legible, but may be +c, which is a version of etc?] from the Prince of Wales Island Haida." Note: Prince of Wales Island is in Alaska, not B.C., as was typed on catalogue card.
From card: "Collected in 1890 by Prof. H. Hyvernat. Same as 395,517, with six figures carved in relief on front - probably a bear with a man between knees on bottom, surmounted by same animal with fish in its mouth and topped by raven with a frog in its beak. Specimen broken and repaired at the top."
