Bentwood ChestNb3.1334 a-b

Bentwood chest with lid (part b). Painted distributive designs on all four sides, split symmetry on long sides. Heavy black formlines with red and black details. Complex designs on front and back; one short side has wide curving black bands with red outlined ovoids, split u's and a round eye shape; cross-hatched details. Other short side has wide curving black bands, a red circle shape to right, red split u's, ovoids and crosshatched details. Two drilled holes at top of each long side. Box lashed at one corner; metal patch nailed with square nails at top. Lid is thick and carved from a single piece of wood; rounded edges.

Wooden arrow with feathers at distal end of arrow shaft and a triangular shaped, rock, point at the other. The feathers attached to the shaft by grooves cut into the sides. The arrow head is hafted by using wire and pitch.

Long, wooden club with a oval shaped end that tapers into a thin, cylindrical shaped handle with a flat, circular knob on the end. The handle is sectioned into three by two sets of carved lines. The head of the club is carved, in relief, with a human facial design.

Handbag-like open work basket with tall sides, two bands of dark brown colour encircling the sides, and two twined handles attached to the upper rim opposite each other. Base is plaited. Sides are cross-warp twined. Rim is a splint which is overcast then the strands are braided. Handle is three twisted, wrapped strands.

A wood bird figure. Has a small distinct forehead, eyes, nostrils, and a long red beak line. The wings are slightly curved, creating a inverted U-shape in cross section with the tail. The black body is painted with turquoise to accentuate the feather outlines. Bottom has hole piercing through.

Divided tray, or box. Square as viewed from above, with sides that angle outwards towards the top edge and upright walls that divide the box into four sections. Both upright walls have curved edges, but one is much more pronounced and higher than the other. Distributive design in black and red, overall. The top edges are painted black and the outside edges of the base are painted red.

Dish in the form of a frog (a) with another small frog grasping onto a slightly domed round lid (b) that fits into the back of the large frog. The large frog is painted black with red lips, and the small frog is painted with a thin coat of black all over except for the whites of the eyes and the feet.

Mouse(?) mask, with small rounded ears, eyebrows with a peak at the top centre, a short snout, prominent incisors on the top and bottom of the mouth, and eyes inlaid with abalone shell. The mask is painted grey around the edges with dark grey stripes over green on the face and chin, black and red alternating stripes on the ears, black eyebrows, dark brown nostrils, red lips, and off-white teeth.

Model CanoeA401 a-b

A painted brown wood model canoe (part a) with a human figure (part b). The interior of the canoe (part a) has an inner red rim and three horizontal rectangular bench seats, each of which has a hole drilled through the middle. The vertically grooved blue bow has an animal figure carving with big bulging black eyes, upraised three-lobed black eyebrows, an open mouth tha has red lips, and plain teeth, a red nose, and a blue body. The plain blue stern has a painted abstract motif consisting of a central circular blue eye that has teeth toward the middle of the boat and red extensions following the contours of the boat end. A human figure (part b) with a hat is sitting on a bench. The figure (part b) is sitting in a crouching, and curling position with its knees bent, and its elbows bent directly above with three curling figures for each hand. The figure's black eyes are surrounded by a dark blue area with black eyebrows above and a red mouth with a red body. The red and blue hat is cylindrical at the top and flares downward and outward at the bottom.
