Bentwood BoxA4093 a-b

Cedar bentwood box with a lid (part b). All four sides made from a single cedar board (approximately 3/4 in. thick), steamed and bent into three right angle corners. The open seam is nailed together. A separate cedar board is nailed on to make a bottom. Box is bound with a network of twisted cedar ropes tied with large knots. Lid is constructed of a series of cedar boards nailed together through two crosspieces along the bottom. One side of lid has an upturned flaring edge.

Thin, wooden board that tapers in thinness towards a slightly bevelled edge. An oval hole at the wider upper edge forms a handle. The top edge flares upwards with a slight curve from the handle to a point at each corner. On both faces an incised line runs parallel to the top edge, as well as over and under the handle.

Copper fragments, both appearing to be from the top right-hand corner of separate coppers. Part a has a faint embossed design with an edge that is folded over. Part b is composed of two pieces that have been riveted together and has a very faint design with the edge folded over.

The talking stick is painted black and red with Northwest Coast stylized designs. The bottom has a cone shaped piece of metal. The back is painted red.

Chief's mask. Black Dzunuk’wa mask with recessed eye sockets, small eyes, a hooked nose and protruding lips. Deeply carved. Long tufts of human hair around the crown. Eye sockets are painted green; facial features are painted red. Reverse is painted red. Cording and leather straps attached to the back.

Dagger that is double-ended and each blade double-edged. One blade is much shorter than the other. Concave blades, each with double ridges on upper surface. The handle is wrapped in leather and bound with cord.

Knife composed of a worn chisel. Chisel is fitted through a slot at one end. Exterior of slot is embellished by a carved representation of a monster-like creature. Creature has a tuft of human hair on his head. Long handle is attached to the head and blade. Knob at the end of the handle has a hollowed hole and is in the shape of a human head(?).
