Ankle Rattle2814/27

String of braided twine with attached seeds to form an ankle rattle. Seeds are large, hollow, and triangular shaped with rounded sides. Each seed has a hole in the top with twine fed through that attaches them to a long braid of twine.

Manioc Strainer2814/26

Long basketry strainer/press. This elongated tube is splayed open at one end where it is woven into an open loop. A braided fibre cord is tied around the loop to secure its shape. At the other end, the sheath is tied shut with bent twigs, and expands into another loop. On the loops at both ends, short, loosely braided rope is attached, and resin is embedded into the palm weaving.

Tori Spirit Mask2814/12

Long, rectangular, brown mask. The sack-like mask is made of tree bark stitched along either side. The top of the mask folds over behind the head and has a dark brown fringe made of bark strips which cascades down the back like hair. Two eyeholes are made at the bottom of the mask, below the face. The face of the mask is a long oval made of black resin painted with yellow and white lines. The mouth is a large protruding circle made of balsa wood with square lips cut into the wood. There are no eyes or other facial features evident.

Tori Spirit Mask2814/11

Long, rectangular, brown mask. The sack-like mask is made of tree bark stitched along either side. The top of the mask folds over behind the head. Two eyeholes are made at the bottom of the mask, below the face. The face of the mask is a long oval made of black resin painted with yellow and white circles and lines. The mouth and area around the eyes are made of balsa wood that juts out. The left eye is missing; the other is a square piece of metallic material. The mouth is a large circle with bug casings(?) lining the circle. There are tufts of grass around the bottom of the mouth area.

Nokoro Spirit Mask2814/1

Long, rectangular, brown mask. The sack-like mask is made of tree bark stitched along either side. The top of the mask folds over behind the head and has a dark brown fringe made of bark strips which cascades down the back like hair. Two eyeholes are made at the bottom of the mask, below the face. The face of the mask is a large oval made of dried black resin, painted with white and yellow features and geometric patterns. The mouth is a triangle, the eyes are circles, the cheeks are semi-circles and there is a triangular crown design on the forehead. The face has a protruding triangular nose and eyebrows made of balsa wood.

Dart Quiver2814/47 a-qq

Dark brown wooden dart holder (part a), with a comb? (b) and 43 darts (parts c-qq). Quiver (a) is long and cylindrical, made of palm wood, with resin around the base. String is tied around the rim and attaches to a woven lid. The lid is woven in a zig zag pattern and there is resin on the top and around the lid. Inside the quiver there is a bundle of sticks wrapped in twine to hold the darts in place. Part b is a wooden rectangle with six triangular points on the top, and a resin coating along the bottom. (c-qq) Each dart is composed of a thin wooden stick with cotton tied to the tips with a thin piece of string.

Dart Quiver2814/45 a-i

Woven dart quiver (part a), with seven darts (parts b-i). Quiver is long and cylindrical with flared sides that widen at the rim. Quiver is tightly woven with a darker brown colour woven into the bottom half in a zigzag pattern. The bottom is flat and capped with resin coated fabric. A twine string is tied around the quiver at the narrowest part at the bottom, perhaps for hanging. Inside the quiver there is a bundle of grass to hold the darts in place. Each dart is composed of a thin wooden stick with cotton tied to the tips with a thin piece of string.

Pan Flute2814/42

Flute with eight progressively shorter and narrower pipes, held together with palm twine tied around the width. The fourth pipe has twine wrapped around the length of the pipe. The pipes are open at the mouth end and closed at the other.

Bureru Spirit Mask2814/16 a-c

Long tubular mask made of balsa wood. Mask is a long hollow cylinder with ears or wings (parts b & c) protruding from holes at its sides. It is decorated with black and brown geometric patterns composed of triangles, squares, circles and Xs. The face is a yellow circle with protruding eyebrows and nose, a painted lined moustache, oval eyes with eyelashes, a triangle mouth, and semi-circles on the cheeks and forehead. Long wooden L-shaped ears or wings which fit into the holes of the mask have one side decorated with painted circles, the other with painted triangles.
