Skull RepresentationA2481

Ornament in the shape of a flattened skull, carved and painted on both sides. The eye holes pierce through the wood, and the mouth is carved in a zigzag tooth pattern. The mouth and chin are painted red, and the remainder of the skull is painted white. There is a hole bored through chin, and one through top of head through which is tied to attach some shreds of cedar bark. There are also a few shreds of cedar bark in the chin hole.

Copper with sides that flare outwards slightly from the base and a top edge that has a rounded peak at the centre. A T-shaped ridge separates the top section from the bottom section and divides the bottom section in half. The top section is slightly convex and has a face incised on the upper portion by scraping away parts of a coating of dark paint (?). The eyes are delineated by two raised bumps.

Copper with a raised t-shape on the lower rectangular half. A simple human face is incised through a coating of dark paint (?) on the upper portion, which is slightly convex and has flaring side edges as well as a rounded top edge. Diagonal lines are incised on the lower portion and a border around the whole copper has been added in the same manner.

Warrior dance knife, or baton in the form of Sisiutl. A long thin downward curving wood piece with a central frontal head and a profile head on either side. The profile heads at either side have scales along their backs with long upward curving protruding tongues. The central frontal head has two upward and outward curling horn-like appendage at the top, and each profile head on either side has another upward and backward curling horn-like appendage at the top. Painted black and red.

Carved, wooden mask depicting Dzunuk’wa. The humanoid face with pursed red lips, high cheekbones, raised eyebrows and deeply set eyes, with a series of parallel horizontal lines incised next to them. There are two metal eyehooks attached to the back rim of the mask with a metal wire tied to them.

Model totem pole figures (part a) portraying a raven(?) and a Sisiutl which has panels (parts b and c) that are inserted into the base of the pole and project from each side. Overall, painted with the colours black, red, and green. Figures are secured to a rounded base with nails.

Feast Dish LidA2522

Dzunuk'wa (or Tsonoqua) figure with pursed lips and heavy eyebrows. The feast dish lid is painted black with white outlining the eyebrows, brown around the red-rimmed eye holes, white bordering the eye sockets, red nostrils bordered around the top with white, brown bordered with white under the cheeks and down the sides of the jaw, red at the temples, and red on the lips.
