RattleA2475

Wooden rattle has hawk face design with recurved beak, blue chin, blue around eyes, and red ears. The reverse has an abstract design in black and red. Consists of two equal longitudinal sections, upper part of each hollowed out to form a closed cavity when the two halves are joined. Short plain handle. The sections are slightly warped.

Ladle with a light and medium brown mountain sheep horn bowl with a curved, elongated oval shape that is joined to a black mountain goat horn handle with wire inserted through three holes in the bowl. The tapering handle is carved with an otter or sea lion figure near the tip, a creature with a small head in its mouth, and a sea wolf type figure at the base. There are two holes bored through the bowl near at the handle base.

A ladle with the bowl rounded, narrowing and curving at almost a right angle to the handle. Mountain sheep horn bowl is riveted to mountain goat horn handle. The handle is carved from the tip with the following: a chief in a three-ringed hat, a raven, and a bear. Handle is inlaid with abalone shell, most of which are for the eyes.

Wood bowl in the shape of a seabird, probably a loon, with the neck extended outward and forward and the back hollowed to form a dish. The bird has circular abalone shell inlaid eyes surrounded by a plain tapering oval and a beak covered with red ochre. The body of the bird is painted black with eight oval opercula inset around the rim. On the upper surface of the tail, there is a face design that has small white circular inset bead eyes surrounded by an oval and a tapering oval, a nose, and an open mouth coated with red ochre showing four plain teeth.

Slightly elongated rectangle with an animal's head carved at either end. These heads may be used as handles. The design of the body of the animals is carried on the outside of the dish by incised lines; they appear to delineate wolves.

Formed from a single plank by kerfing three corners. The fourth is sewn with rootlets. The outer surfaces are incised with fluted lines and crest designs which may represent bear. The surface has been dyed red with cinnabar (mercuric sulphide).
