PAINTING MAY BE BY AN INDIAN ARTIST. FOUR PIECES OF RED CEDAR FITTED TOGETHER AS A DISK, 12" DIAMETER. ON FRONT IS PAINTED DESIGN OF AN EAGLE IN NORTHERN NORTHWEST COAST STYLE, BLACK RED, WHITE AND YELLOW, PERHAPS STENCILLED, FINISHED WITH SHINY VARNISH. ON BACK: "LEGEND OF THE EAGLE" SUPPOSEDLY AN INDIAN ORIGIN MYTH ACCOUNTING FOR THE COASTAL ISLANDS. LABELED " MADE IN BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA" OLD PIECE OF TAPE READS, IN PENCIL " A-IZ LEFT AT WINOWSICÙ T4 A-6B" LAST CHARACTERS UNCLEAR; PROBABLY INDICATES THE SOURCE OF THE OBJECT, PERHAPS DURING THE 1950'S OR 1960'S, AND ACCOUNTS FOR ITS STORAGE, UNCATALOGUED IN THE SCHOOL COLLECTION.
