NeedleSf1024

Large metal needle with a lenticular eye at one end and a flattened point at the other end. A cross section of the shaft is roughly circular. The shaft has a number of bumps and bows. The surface is only roughly finished with scrapes and dents visible to the naked eye. The surface is powdered with rust. The top end of the needle eye has broken through and is now pinched closed.

Plying SpindleSf1022

Spindle, consisting of a wooden shaft with a cone shaped whorl near one end with a conical, wrapped section of plied yarn resting on the flat surface of the whorl. The middle of the shaft has a section of losing wound, plied yarn which is attached to a compactly wound round ball of paired yarns. The yarn wound around the shaft is tightly plied while the yarn in the ball is not plied.

Belt woven with colour blocks arranged in a series of graduated hues ranging from light to dark and including the entire colour spectrum. Two separate colour series alternate on one face in blocks about 4 cm wide. One end is finished with a braided fringe. Attached to both ends by yarns are loosely woven narrow ties. The ties are red, white and black.

Wide red belt with three lengthwise patterned stripes. Outer bands are stepped triangle shapes with white squares, center motif are white squares around green rectangles. Purple stripes flank center band, and also run along edges. One end of band terminates in fourteen braids which are looped on a green cord knotted to a narrow woven band. Woven ties has pink diagonal stripes on white.

Long belt with lengthwise stripes in multiple colours and a central design band with white animal, fish, bird, flower and building motif,s on a dark red and green background. One end terminates in ten braids which are looped together by a separate cord and attached to another cord tie. The other end of the belt has similar cords attached to the selvedge. Two narrow white stripes on multi-colour striped bands at edges.

Shirt of natural white wool with slash neck, stand-up collar and long, straight sleeves. The collar is embroidered at the front outside with slashes of bright coloured yarn and outlined with a red band. The front bottom of the shirt is shorter than the back. The fabric is thick and somewhat felted with some black wool woven in along the back bottom edge.

Belt with a pattern formed by a series of graduated hues ranging from light to dark and including the entire colour spectrum. Two separate colour series alternate in blocks. A single chevron band in orange, green, grey and white runs lengthwise along the centre of the belt. One end is finished with a fringe of 28 braids. Attached to both ends by red cords are narrow bands with a repeating pattern similar to the main belt.

Underbelt LoomSf1021

Rectangular wooden frame loom with a partially woven dark and light brown wool textile stretched lengthwise. The frame is constructed of four pieces of round, peeled wood. Carved pegs on the ends of side pieces fit into slots on the end pieces, securing the corners. Two corners, where the wood has split, are reinforced with cord lashings. The thick, stiff wool fabric stripes extend from both ends of the frame toward the middle and a skein of weft is attached to the last point woven. Approximately one half of the dark brown warp is unwoven. The warp is secured to the interior of the frame by separate lashing cords at each end.

A felted beige hat with a large crown and small flat brim. White commercial cloth used as a headband and an edging which is stitched to the brim. The felt is thick and rigid and the surface is smooth.
