FROM CARD: "CARVED FROM ONE PIECE OF WOOD, WITH THREE THWARTS, PAINTED RED INSIDE, AND BLACK AROUND THE CENTER 3/4 OF THE OUTSIDE. HAS THE TYPICAL CONCAVE PROW LINE OF THE BOATS OF THESE INDIANS. THIS IS A SEA-OTTER HUNTING CANOE. INFORMATION FROM: DR. F. DE LAGUNA. 11/1963."
Accession file identifies original #93, Catalogue No. E20880, as a war club made of whales rib from Koutznow [i.e. Hutsnuwu people]. Anthropology Catalogue ledger book lists locality as Admiralty Island, Alaska.
From card: "Cedar bark woven."Original label attached to artifact says "Polly Skulka [presumably the maker or original owner?], Jackson, Alaska." Jackson is an alternate name for Howkan, Alaska, which is a Haida town. Skulka/Skultka is usually a Haida name.
Provenience note: Anthropology catalogue ledger book lists a locality of Alaska for E67931 - 68019. Catalogue cards list a locality of Sitka. Alaska. It is unclear which is correct, though it is probable that the collection was purchased in Sitka.

IN GENERAL SHAPE IT IS THAT OF A WAISTCOAT, WITH COLLAR SEWED ON WITH THONGS, BUT NOT FORMED OF PIECES LIKE THE SIMILAR ARMOR. FASTENED IN FRONT WITH 4 LAPPETS AND SAILORS' BUTTONS OF BRASS. ON THE RIGHT SIDE IS A LOOP OF BUCKSKIN, PROBABLY FOR THE DAGGER, HEIGHT, 23 INCHES. ILLUS. IN USNM AR, 1893; PL. 21, FIG. 2; P. 644. LOANED TO THE S.I. CENTENNIAL COMM. 7-9-75.
