Large rectangular yellow cedar panel, with a centre circular relief carving with painted orange-red primary form lines, black secondary form lines and anatomical features; negative space in and around carving is oiled. Image: two black side bands have frontal orange-red frogs with splayed bodies on either side of head, subtle differences in depiction of each frog. Central image: combines bird and mammal features; top half is frontal mammal's head with double split u ears, heavy bent brows, square-like pupils in pointed eyelid lines, broad flat snout joined to top of continuous lip band, six wide rectangular upper teeth; pointed beak joins bottom lip band, split u nostrils, wings, angled on either side of beak, have identical frontal animalistic faces, beside each face is a three claw foot. Signed at bottom corner on right: Bob/87, the letter D is carved over the letter B. Numerous tiny holes and oil spots along bottom edge.
Symmetrical design is predominantly black with red detail. All images are contained in a basically rounded rectangle. There is a head at the top centre protruding from the bottom, a horizontally elongated frontal face with a protruding tongue and a salmon-trout head eye motif, and a small frontal face with three split u's above up to the ovoid with a nearly solid inner ovoid. Frontal face at the top has a series of six split u's along the top of the head with a triangle shape below the chin. Two profile faces are on either side with a red curled s-shape above the teeth row and having the tail come to a point and the forelimb go to the centre. Pencil inscription across the bottom reads '207/225 Raven travelling with Sculpin Dempsey Bob '79'. There are three embossed marks along the bottom edge, from the right: 'The Gallery Collection', a circle with a vertical line, and a discontinuous horizontal line. The print is on a vertically rectangular, near white paper piece with a deckle edge top and bottom.
Circular, bilaterally symmetrical, red and black stylized image including a frontal face in a black ovoid at the centre. Bottom half of face is detailed in red with black ovoid eyes outlined bya tapering oval. Red hands below face with circular palms, four fingers, and with the thumbs to the centre. Outer edge of circle has a black ovoid with a split ovoid at the centre top on either side followed by a wing-like series of black u forms with various red details to the bottom centre. Pencil inscription across the bottom edge 'A/P IX/XX 10/1/77 MESSENGER SPIRIT Roy Henry Vickers'. The print is on a relatively square, light white-brown paper stock.
Rectangular plaque or panel of wood surrounded by a wooden frame. The background surface has vertical adzed fluting, with a plain raised area in the form of a cross. In the central area is an engraved and painted human face representing Jesus; left side painted red, incised lines around all painted areas; right side painted black, incising only around teeth and as an outline. On back is incised 'RHV 76' and written in ink 'Roy H. Vickers 1976'.
Stylized frontal, bilaterally symmetrical face has circular black eyes outlined by a tapering oval that have thick black eyebrows above with double red bands above and below. Red u form on each cheek. Nose is a tapering black triangle with ovoid nostrils. Red mouth and a red ovoid at the chin. Black hair framing the face in form line bands with slightly curved strands to the outside and s-shapes between the bands. Red medallion at neckline with a four-pointed star-cross at the centre and two strands below. Collar is outlined in sweeping black lines. Black ink inscription across the bottom edge reads '51/150 Tsimshian Woman R. Vickers /74'. Embossed stamp at the lower left reads 'Printed Vin Rickart'. The print is on a vertically rectangular, light green-brown paper stock.
Profile arched blackfish with the head on the left side. Has red designs on the snout and the cheek. An open black mouth with upper and lower teeth and a red tongue. Reclining female figure in the centre of the fish has a frontal head with a lower lip labret and a profile body containing an embryo. Base of the dorsal fin has an ovoid with a frontal human face wearing a segmented high crowned hat and a four fingered hand at the top of the fin. At the base of the pectoral fin, there is a diagonal ovoid with a frontal face. At the base of the tail fin, there is an ovoid with a frontal human face. Black and red designs on the lower portion of the body. Artist's initials are below the tail fin on ther right. Pencil inscription across the bottom edge reads '45/195 22/2/78 BLACKFISH Roy Henry Vickers'. The print is on a vertically rectangular, light brown paper piece.
Forehead mask of a woman, whose head is a rattle, sits on the forehead of an eagle; hair, black wire wrapped around ends, is inserted into eleven drilled holes on top of the woman's head; black and orange-red paint are used to emphasize features; front human head has black brows and eyes; wide flat nose has orange-red nostrils; wide continuous orange-red lip band; prominent cheek ridges; ears on either side of head; back of head is yellow cedar with flat face depicted in incised circle; black brows; circular black eyes; broad flat nose with orange-red nostrils; wide continuous orange-red lip band. Body, shown only on front, has arms slightly extended and bent, elbows and forearms rest on eagle's brows, hands are downturned; legs are drawn up next to chest, four black claw-like toes on each foot. Eagle has black brows with horizontal rows of short orange- red lines; black bulbous eyes; thin sharp beak incorporates wide orange-red lip band, flattened semi-circular nostrils on either side; orbital ridge melds with cheek ridge which follows line of lip band; triangular depressed area under lower beak. On reverse, a leather strip is attached to either side by a singular stitch of white waxed cord, cord is also tied around leather. Signed inside: 'B' 'D'/87 'Dempsey Bob Tahltan Tlingit.' Unpainted wood is finished with oil.
Alder wood eagle mask with bear's head in centre of forehead; copper nails used to attach black and white bear's fur to outer rim; one stitch of white waxed cord attaches fur between bear's ears; white fur along eagle's jaw line; hair, with black wire wrapped ends, extend from four holes drilled into rim of bear's ears; features are emphasized in black and orange-red paint; bear's ears are outlined in black, centre has incised split u above two vertical lines; ridge in centre of forehead; black slanting brows; black eyes; orange-red nostrils and lip band; upper teeth are visible, top and bottom incisors overlap lip band. Eagle has black brows with small horizontal incised lines, fur overlaps brows; bulbous protruding eyes; orbital ridge melds with protruding cheek ridge; thin sharply curved beak incorporates wide orange-red lip band; flattened semi-circular orange-red nostrils on either side of beak. On reverse, leather strips attached to either side by one stitch of white cord; mask signed 'Dempsey Bob, Tahltan-Tlingit '87'; incised 'B' in a 'D' next to signature; unpainted wood finished with oil.
Head of christ depicted in Northwest Coast style using s-shapes, u forms, split u's, and ovoids for the eyes, hair, and the mouth. The face and hair are divided vertically, one half red on the left side and one half black on the right side with negative spaces left grey. The red side has three tears from the eye down the cheek. The crown of thorns is only on the red side. The eye on the black side is solid in the centre while the eye on the red side is outlined with negative space. Pencil inscription across the bottom edge reads '61/100 II TIMONTHY 2: 11,12 Roy H. Vickers Tsimsian Tribe KitKatla B.C. 9/4/76.'. The print is on a vertically rectangular, grey paper piece.
