Adire Cloth1774/11

Adire (indigo dyed) cloth. Composed of two pieces of cloth, which are each made of three pieces of cloth. Decorated with an indigo resist-dyed design in light blue on dark blue composed of flowers, human figures at the centre, lion faces, birds, letters, and numbers. Each side is machine-stitched with light yellow thread that curves outwards at each corner.

Adire (indigo dyed) cloth. Yellow and light blue, hatched and crosshatched, geometric and floral patterns on indigo and black. Overall checkered pattern, composed of two pieces of cloth sewn together at the centre. The underside is solid indigo and black in a checkerboard pattern.

Adire Cloth1774/9

Adire cloth composed of two pieces of indigo resist-dyed cloth stitched along the centre. The surface is divided by two wide bands of stripes running parallel to the edge and bisected by two wide bands of white stripes running perpendicular to form rectangular spaces filled in with with light blue to white lines forming crosshatched patterns and alternating blue and light blue to white stripes. Rows of stitch holes are visible on the pattern lines. The ends perpendicular to the centre seam are unfinished.

Adire Cloth1774/7

Adire (indigo dyed) cloth. Composed of two panels, each made from squares with resist-dyed indigo designs. The designs are composed mainly of light blue bands composed of short lines and small circles with a band of small circles at two opposing edges. Small bits of palm leaf raffia are still found stitched along the pattern lines.

A carved wood female figure with a flat chin holding a bowl on her head. Hair is carved with an elaborate braid coiled around her head, on top of which, there is a bowl carved with a snake around it. The eyes bulge outward; wide nose and lips. There are three vertical scarification marks on each cheek. Her arms are bent perpendicularly at the elbows so that her hands are on her angled breasts. She is in a kneeling position.

Brown decorated pot with a flat base, round body tapering to a small neck and flared rim. The rim has a cross-hatch design. Tiny points circle around the neck. Attched to the upper body are animal figures and symbols. Around the body middle is a double band of vertical indentations. The lower body is undecorated.

Dome-shaped black coloured mask of an animal with long tapered horns carved in relief and decorated with lightly carved striped designs, crescent-shaped cut out eyes, thin humped nose ridge, and protruding mouth that is open and tapers to a squared-off point. On either side face are long rectangular pieces carved in relief and decorated with lightly carved zigzag designs.

Rectangular-shaped grey coloured tin stencil with dotted cut-out cross-hatching design. In between cross-hatching are alternating rows of cut-out designs depicting flowers and umbrellas. Two of the four sides of the piece have solid tin edges. The longer tin side has a central cut-out hole. The front side of the stencil is smooth and the reverse is slightly raised.
