Scene with Polar Bear and Seal2004.79.39

Carved ivory bear and seal on a platform representing ice. Seal is exiting water, and bear, who is smaller in size than seal, stands on four legs and stares his way. Animal eyes are drilled and filled with black pigment. Condition good. Glue poorly applied.

Kayak with Buoy, Two Figures, and a Seal2004.79.17a-g

Two-person stone kayak with pointed bow and stern; cutout paddle- holes to hold two wooden paddles (each paddle broken); rawhide strips through kayak (2 at front, 1 at middle, and 1 at back); miscellaneous wood strips under back and front; wood peg in front to hold dead stone seal; wood peg at back to hold stone buoy with rawhide strip around neck; 'Figure 1' with arms and legs outstretched; and 'Figure 2' with arms clasped together and legs outstretched. Condition generally good. Eskimo art label: artist name partially covered by label and 'E-56'. Head and Torso of a Man2004.79.38

Hooded head and torso of a male are carved in two pieces of natural bone that are attached by pegs at the neck area. Head has pointed anorak and turned down mouth. Eyes are colored black. Rough and smooth areas of bone produce different colors through piece. Condition is good. Artist tag says: 'Koomiut Co-op Ltd' Pelly Bay, NWT' '7060 'Artist: Cecilia N.' A second tag says: '01027 ATK.'

Slice of antler holds three seals made of ivory in place. The seals are a family group in three sizes: large, medium, and small. Seals are attached to antler with pegs and glue. Drilled holes filled with black pigment for eyes. Condition is fair. Head of small seal worn. Glue poorly applied.

Three abstract ivory birds attached to a base with wooden pegs. Birds' black circular eyes are painted on the surface. Light gray stone base is a natural form. Condition very good. Taped ticket to bottom says: '01038' 'Naujat Co.' 'GVK-0.' Eskimo tag says: 'Naujat' 'Repulse Bay' 'Artist: 7453.' Inuit word for Repulse Bay is now Naujaat.
