Figure standing with arms pressed into sides. Face is carved with deep set eyes with holes for pupils, a flat nose, and a protruding mouth. Fingers are indicated by incised outlines on a flat surface. Back is carved from buttocks to shoulders as a concave triangle. Surface is smooth in some areas and pitted in others. Ivory reveals yellow aging overall with dark brown patches. Was mounted through a hole in one foot.

Red Headdress with Blue and White Beads50.67.31

This headdress is constructed on a base of red Stroud cloth, formed into a band and decorated with beadwork in a series of "filled triangles." Blue triangular outlines filled with white beads alternate with white outlines filled with blue. A line of white beads is also attached at the lower edge of the red band. Horsehair that has been dyed red is inserted on the top of the band and a ribbon, once green, is tied on at both ends for fastening. An ear lock of horse hair is tied with sinew onto hide thong and a fine crewel yarn cord is hand plaited at the edge where the horsehair is attached.

This hammer has hide totally covering the wood handle and around the part that holds the stone to the handle. The tapered, grey stone hammer is chipped on one end. The other end has a rounded tip to it. There is one groove around the head at both ends.The condition on this one is a slightly chipped stone but it is nicely carved. This might have had a decorative horsetail hanging from it. Such clubs were used in dances before a hunt and had symbolic and ceremonial function not a war function. Members of a society carried these as badges of honor and emblems of office.
