The objects in this accession were collected primarily for use on museum exhibit mannequins representing a Chilkat Tlingit family group. It may be speculated that this hair was to be used as part of the exhibit.

List in accession file identifies # 61 as "1 box containing complete outfit of an Indian medicine man, Hannegan Indians, Klawark village, P. of Wales Island, Alaska." Catalogue Nos. E20828 - 38 may be related objects?

Cribbage game board. Object is carved in the shape of a fish, balancing on four peg legs, with a wide head and rounded snout, eyes set far apart on top of head. Down the back of the creature are bored four lines of small, evenly placed holes and among these are etched images of animals such as seals, walrus, fish, whales, and people fishing and driving a dog sled. The etchings have been darkened, with an ink or pigment, for visibility.

Chilkat style robe with woven designs and fringe. The design is in three panels, with an ancestor face in the middle and animal motifs above, below and to the sides. The design is yellow, light blue and dark brown on natural ground. A long twisted fringe of mixed wool and cedar bark hangs from the bottom. Two cotton ties are sewn to the top, along with eight (non-original) cotton twill hanging loops.

Wooden slat body armour which has been painted and has small faces carved in a line round its middle. The slats are bound together with string-like binding; Good. Additional description: Armour consists of curved front and back pieces, each with an upper flap. Rear piece is shorter, but curves into a tongue shape at centre. Body sections secured together with four horizontal bands of lashing. Flaps secured with two bands of lashing. Front and back body sections decorated with a row of carved heads. The two flaps have a single head at centre of each. Armour also painted with geometric shapes. (J. Tanner, 1999).

Arrow has long wooden shaft, tapering slightly and reddening toward nock. Fletching has come loose and is attached to shaft with string. At bottom, the point is sunk into the wood and secured with wrapped sinew. The point is copper, cylindrical in shape, with incised circles and diagonal lines along its length. The tip has 4 outward barbs surrounding the central point.

Arrow has long wooden shaft, tapering slightly and reddening toward nock. Fletching is attached to shaft with wrapped sinew at feather tops and bottoms. At the tip, the point is cast in copper, with a long, thin base culminating in a wide point with serrations below the barbs on the neck. It is sunk into the wood and secured with wrapped sinew.
