Model Totem PoleA8419

Totem pole model (part a) featuring a bear with a human figure, bird, beaver, eagle with nest and three young. Colours are brown, yellow, green, black and red. Figures rest on a rectangular base (part b). Two nails protrude from the top of the base and fit into two holes on the underside of the base.

Part a is a male doll and has a square head of folded off-white cloth with a skirt of white and pink cloth with a red, dark red and blue design over off-white cloth, the edges unfinished, and the skirt is bound with off-white string. Part b is a female doll with a round off-white head and a head scarf is made of white cotton with a floral pattern in pink, red, orange, green, and dark red. An off-white skirt or dress is tied just below the head with off-white string.

Halibut HookA7980

Fish hook made from one piece of iron, u-shaped with sharp point directed inward at an acute angle to one arm and a flaring outward turn toward the end of the opposite arm. The axis of the point and main shank is bound with twine. Remains of leader line attachment on opposite arm.

Carved wooden head of a canine (possibly a wolf) with extended tongue. Extending backward and glued to this figure's neck are three paddle-shaped prongs. In cross section each prong is flat on the outside and convex on the inside. The join between the head and prongs is wrapped with a strip of red-coloured bark.

Long narrow mat with painted designs. There are two centered paintings in green and red within two thick black circles. One painting is of a killer whale, the other is of a thunderbird. There is a pair of dark cedar strands running around the outside border. The edge is finished using a wider strip of cedar as the outermost strand and overcasting on a core of cedar. There is a wooden dowel attached across one end.

A narrow model wood canoe that has four seated rowers dressed in red capes with paddles that are red-tipped. The rowers have light brown-cream-coloured paper feathers in their black fibre hair. On one side of the canoe, there is a raven design in black and red.

Tapering cylindrical four-reeded brown wood framed ivory(?) whistle that has a knob at the wider end. Bound with brown cord around the middle and around the knob itself. The end opposite to that of the knob end has four hollows through it connected by an x-formation and four taper cut semi-oval holes nearby around the sides. Sealed with resin gum.

Three long strips of woven cedar bark, joined lengthwise by stitching to create a wide, belt-like band; each strip is formed by four chains linked together. Ends are bound with skin. Three cedar tassels hang from each end.
