Ritual Funerary Stick3104/4

Ritual funerary stick. A long, thick bundle of plant fibre, triangular in cross section, is densely wrapped in twisted fibres that are pigmented in alternating colour bands of rust-brown, white and yellow. The pointed end is crowned in a tuft of white feathers, while small orange, grey, and white and grey striped feathers and feather down are loosely attached along the length of the stick. The butt end of the stick is wrapped in loose fibres.

Ritual Funerary Stick3104/3

Ritual funerary stick. A large, round bundle of plant fibre, wide at bottom and narrowing toward the top, densely wrapped by thin, twisted fibres coloured in wide bands of white, light brown, and dark yellow pigment. Feather down is woven into the fibre in several places, mainly around the midpoint. At top is a smooth stick of forked wood, wrapped into the body of the piece with the twisted plant fibre. It is thickly covered with yellow pigment. Two long handles of twisted fibre are attached either side, at midpoint.

Ritual funerary stick. A bundle of plant fibres are densely wrapped by twisted fibres, pigmented in alternating bands of colour in rust brown, white and dark yellow. Small orange, grey and striped white and grey feathers and down are attached along the length of the stick. The body widens slightly downwards, flaring at the end into a wider portion for several centimetres before narrowing sharply to a blunt point.

A Myth of the Ancestral Being, Barama2940/1

Bark painting on a roughly rectangular piece of slightly warped reddish-brown bark. The top is entirely covered with the painted image in yellow, black and white on a dark red ground. The image is divided into six panels. The upper centre panel shows two black possums on either side of the trunk of a tree. The four corner panels each show a pair of vertical yellow and black possums. The bottom centre panel shows two women facing a tree trunk. Above the upper panels is a horizontal panel of wavy lines. The upper and lower ends each finish with a short black band. The reverse is plain bark.

Armband2919/21

Arm ring. The ring is made of woven reed and covered with black fibre, mud and white and rust coloured pigment. Several strands of twisted fibre are attached to one part of the ring by mud. The strands are divided into two bunches, each joined at the distal ends with a lump of mud that also holds feathers.

Small wooden casket to hold bones. Object is made of a long, cylindrical piece of wood, hollow and open at both ends. The interior is raw and unfinished, while the exterior is smoother and painted in a pattern of black and white dots, white zigzagging lines, and a linear pattern in orange at one end.

Decorated wooden paddle-shaped club, narrow in profile, with a wide head tapering into a thinner handle. At the end of the handle a small hole has been bored partially through the wood. The paddle head is painted on both sides with patterns of dots, lines, circles and colour-blocks in yellow, white, rust, and brown, and the handle is painted rust.

Throwing Club2919/13

Wooden throwing club, rounded, with a thick head narrowing toward a long, thin handle. The handle is carved with slight ridges, the head with more pronounced and evenly spaced ones that meet in a point at the top. The club is painted with a dark brown to rust colour overall, with bands of yellow and black encircling just under the head.
