Model Totem Pole3679/1

Model pole carved of whale bone. Eagle at the top, perched on a crouching human figure, then a bird-like figure with claws or talons at the base. Eyes, some lines and background areas have been coloured black (ink or paint?). Back of pole smooth and slightly concave. Pole attached to rounded base, with scalloped pattern, by two metal screws. Artist name, place and date inscribed on back.

Basket3687/1

Large, kidney-shaped, hand-woven basket; cedar slat construction, wrapped with cedar root; decorated with alternating stipes of imbrication in black and red cherry bark and pale yellow grass. Small half-circle handles attached near top edge at each end. Fourteen vertical stripes around all sides of basket; each set consists of 2 bark, 2 grass, 3 bark, 2 grass, 2 bark, some in black bark and grass, others in red bark and grass. Remains of secondary handles at both corners of the indented side (small root remains in four holes at one end; holes are empty at other end.) Old repair runs along the top edge on the outer side.

Dance DrumA6901 a-b

Circular, handheld drum made from hide stretched over a wooden frame. Drum has four lengths of wire across the back with cloth covering the centre juncture, forming a handle. Drumstick (part b): head of drumstick covered with black cloth; small section next to head painted green.

Cedar bark basket with no seams (sides have collapsed). Inside the basket were found fragmented strands of dentalium shell, blue beads, and bark (now grouped as part b); and a large quantity of loose dentalium shells and fragments (now grouped as part c).

Bracelet3682/1

Cuff style silver bracelet. Most of the surface is covered with a double bear(?) motif. The animals face each other, with their noses almost touching at the centre; their back ends and hind feet touch the thin outline at the cuff ends; background mainly filled with crosshatching. Lightly engraved inside: "Carved by C Gladstone Skidegate Mission BC 1951".
