Wooden handle for a carving tool. Hand carved piece of wood. Rounded, but off-centre, grip at wider end. Wood has been sawed off flat at the narrow end. Unpainted; undecorated.
Carving knife with a short steel blade, round metal neck piece and wooden handle. Knife looks as if it may have originally been manufactured/store bought, then modified by hand to fit better. The handle, neck and lower part of blade have red paint remnants and/or splatters. The blade shows major sharpening marks.
Spiral studio sketch book. Soft front cover, cardboard back cover, ten inside sheets, all held together with by a metal coil at one end. First four sheets have pencil sketches on both sides, the rest are blank. The first five sides mainly have small sketches of ovoid forms or eye forms, etc.; the sixth side has an larger sketch of an eagle figure inside an oval; the seventh side has sketches of various tools and fish hooks; the eighth side has an larger sketch of an animal (bear?) inside an oval border.
Cast gold ring. Large beaver face at centre, with a carved leg at each side of the face. Beaver's large teeth extend to lower rounded chin edge; the tops of its ears extend along the upper, flatter edge. There's a notch in the upper edge, above the centre of the face. Slightly stippled surface. Front of ring is quite wide; the band narrows substantially toward the back. (No visible artist inscription.)
Cedar head ring. Object is made of a thick band of braided cedar bark that is joined into a ring at front by a braided wrapping of the same material. Ends have been trimmed and protrude on either side of the wrapping for several centimeters.
Large burden basket with strap. Basket is constructed in a sturdy, open weave, wide at the mouth, narrowing sharply to a small rectangular base. Base is woven in a herringbone pattern. The lip is wrapped with cherry bark, which is also used as a decorative element in the body of the basket as strands of the warp. A rope of coarse plant fibre is attached around the lip by twists of cedar root, with a carrying strap of woven wool in dark brown and blue attached on one side.
Basket with lid. Basket is round, with a wide shoulder that narrows toward a narrower mouth at top, and a smaller base. The exterior is decorated with cherry bark imbrication in a repeating lightning design in alternating bolts of dark and light brown. The interior bottom is imbricated in a butterfly wing design of triangles in three shades of brown bark. The lid (part b) is slightly domed, with an inset lip and is topped with a round handle at centre. Handle is held to the lid by a short length of white rope attached to a small piece of wood on the underside. Lid is similarly decorated with the repeating lightning design.
Carved wooden club. Blade is a long leaf shape, increasingly thick toward the centre on both sides where a line runs down the spine from tip to hilt. Swirling foliage is carved into the surface, a natural light brown colour in crevices, with the surface painted a dark brown or black. The grip on the hilt is undecorated, smooth and rounded, Pommel is in the shape of a bird's head with patterning carved along back and top, under which is a large eye and curved, blunt beak.
Strip of dried cherry bark, curled into a long tube and tied with string. Prepared for use in the construction of woven baskets.
Dried and cut grass prepared for use in weaving baskets, approximately 14 strands. The bunch is wrapped together with a strip of pink and white patterned cotton.
