Fishermen's Trap3101/1

Brown ink print on thick, cream coloured paper. The image shows a large canoe at top, four figures seated inside and rowing with long paddles through large waves with rounded tops. Below, under the surface of the water, is a stylized triangular net containing several fish (bonito tuna) of various sizes, all decorated with linear designs. The boat, fish and net are surrounded by palm leaves to edges of the image, representing the technique used in traditional Solomon Islands fisheries of herding a school of fish toward a net using the leaves. Bracelet3094/1

Gold bracelet with an oval design at the front-centre. The decoration shows a dove facing right, on a flowering branch inside an incised oval. Both long edges have a plain, linear border. The bracelet is wider at the centre, tapering toward each squared end where it has a single slotted hook clasp. The inside is plain, but has mottled marks over the surface due to the manufacture technique.

Woodblock print in black and gold, from edition of 4. The image shows figures/scenes in black on a gold ground. A central, vertical figure stands wrapped in a blanket, wearing a feather headdress. Above fly eagles and ravens. Below is a buffalo skull and a banner saying “pray/ work”. Along both sides girls and young women are shown in different scenes cooking, ironing, sewing and praying on their knees.

Large human mask painted and with leather and copper applique. The eyes rotate and have black eyeballs on one side, and red with copper bands on the other. The pieces of copper sheet are applied in patterns composed of lines, diamonds and eye-shaped sections. The lips and eyebrows are also made from shaped copper, the teeth are painted white and made from wood. The hide arranged in strips down the cheeks, across the upper lip and under the chin could once have had hair, giving the mask a beard. The reverse of the mask has a crossbar for the wearer to grip in their teeth, there are several leather thongs, and a lever attached to leather lines to operate the rolling eyes.; Good

Catalogue card description, Coloured mask with moveable eyes and elaborately carved stick. The mask has inlaid moveable eyes, and an articulated jaw, red lips and haliotis shell inlaid teeth. The eyebrows are prominent and painted black. The nose is fine with slightly accentuated nostrils which are painted red. Through the centre of the forehead a ridge rises to the edge of the mask. The mask has face-painting designs consisting of blue and red double U- forms across the cheeks on the chin. The catalogue card has been updated with notes on the state of the mask, the wood of the nose and lips are splitting, one eye inlay is missing, a gash on right cheek, and there is no sign of the elaborately carved stick.; Good

Large stoneware dish. Dish is round, with an everted rim and thick base with foot. The well is painted with an image in blue of a woman holding a chicken. The two look each other in the eye. Surrounding the image are overlapping feather shapes in three encircling rows on the rim. Lip is painted a dark grey. Exterior is undecorated. Signature on bottom of plate.
