Headdress2735/3

Brightly coloured feather headdress. Small round basketry cap is almost completely covered with pink, purple, blue and a few orange feathers that have been sewn together in rings and woven into the cap in layers. Inside the cap is a long loop of twisted grass.

Mask2735/4

Beaded red and black elephant mask. Two long panels of black cotton fibre with red bordering, red, white, blue and multi-colour bead decoration, and burlap backing are sewn together at one end to form a stocking face mask, with large eye openings and large round protruding ears, that pulls over the top of the head. Attached to the top is a large plate-shaped basketry headdress with white canvas covering the flat top and red and black textile on the sides and bottom. Several figures with beaded facial features are attached to top brim and slope down to bottom of cap.

Ndop textile made of two panels sewn together. Complex design in off-white on indigo ground includes segmented circles, interlocking swastika-like shapes, connected triangles, dots and a band of propeller shapes at each fringed end. Interspersed throughout are grass stitches.

Sleeveless, black robe with embroidered red, yellow and white geometric designs. The robe is shaped like two squares, the smaller above the larger. The upper square is open at the sides, sewn closed along the top with a rounded neck opening. The lower square is sewn closed at the sides and open at the bottom. Around the neck opening are yellow and white bands of double helix. There is a wide border with alternating red and white lines above and below a gold double helix. The border forms a downward point beneath the neck opening. The border also runs down the sides of the upper square, between the two squares and along the bottom of the lower square. Amidst the borders are designs of hearts, squares and triangles in white and yellow.

Light tan-coloured musical instrument covered with curvilinear designs burnt onto the surface and blackened ends. Hollow body with a flat top and rounded bottom; ten keys are made from stiff strips of wood attached to the top of the body; two protrusions at one end of body. The word "Kubom" inscribed in blue ink along one side.

Brown wood drum on top of a figure's head. Carved female at the bottom has a thin, deep head with bulging semi-oval eyes, a nose, and a mouth as well as pointed breasts which have four vertically linear incisions, a pointed belly, and bent knees while sitting on a chair. Her arms are holding the drum on top of her head. The drum is carved with two sets of an upward facing lizard ?, a right facing goat ?, and a left facing bird holding a snake in its mouth. Top of the drum has stretched skin with some fur remaining.

Dark and light brown coloured human figure with round head, smooth dark-brown coloured hair, round protruding ears, oval eyes, wide nose, and slightly opened mouth. Figure has a dark-brown coloured neck and is wearing a tunic-like garment carved into the wood that is decorated with engraved lines and a central horizontally-positioned diamond-shape. Arms are at the figures' side, legs are thick, and feet are oval with carved grooves indicating toes.

Buffalo Headdress1491/5

Buffalo, or bush cow, headdress (or mask). The animal has a long narrow face, with tapered horns on its head that curve inward at the ends. The lower part of thehorns is decorated with a white cross-hatching design. The head of the animal has eyes carved in relief and outlined in white paint, small oval-shaped protruding ears, wide oval-shaped nostrils painted white in the centre, and a slightly open mouth with large white painted teeth.

Short cylinder of yellow-brown, lengthwise wrapped grass and three places where three black lines run vertically. Both rims have three rows of small, tightly coiled rings, remaining outside surface is covered with black and natural plyed strands arranged alternately with s and z twist cords adjacent to each, forming a braid-like pattern.
