Wand3420/49

Wand with heavily beaded handle. Three sections of bands of colours - dark brown, yellow, orange and light blue, with three sections of triangles in white, dark green, yellow and orange. There is a section where the shaft splits into four smaller pieces that are wrapped in light blue and black beads. Above the beading, the handle is wrapped in red fabric with two small loops of plant fibre cord attached. Extending from the other end is long, straight dark red-brown horse(?) hair over wood, that folds over on itself where the wood ends.

Buffalo Headdress3420/47

Wooden bovine headdress (or helmet mask). Carved from wood and covered with cloth and glass beads. The entire mask is decorated with bright blue beads, with eyes of red and white beads, nostrils and lips in red. The muzzle tapers somewhat between the head and nose, with the mouth open, exposing large block teeth and a tongue. There are small rounded ears, and two long horns that extend toward the back. There are short lengths of cord knotted at the back.

Tunic3420/48

Tunic covered in beadwork. Short-sleeved, box-shaped, high neck with round neckline, and an open back with two ties at top and bottom. Neckline, sleeve cuffs, and hem edged in red. Beadwork is light blue, white and yellow in overall open net-like diamond pattern, with elongated, vertical, diamond patterns at both sides, repeated in small on the sleeves.

Pipe3420/51 a-b

Large wood pipe bowl (part a) with separate long beaded stem (part b). On one end of the bowl is a large male face with circular eyes, large eyebrows, and two large puffed-out cheeks marked with scarification(?). The dark brown-black pipe bowl is carved with wrapping bands with zigzag designs within that cross underneath rows of bull heads. The bowl is horizontal, and sits above the mortise hole. The stem is heavily beaded with designs in red, light green, white and black. The tenon end (inserts into mortise) is wrapped in heavily soiled fabric, while the other end is a tube of wood extending from the beaded section with a small flat mouthpiece.

Figure standing with knees slightly bent, right hand holding a staff, and left hand holding a horn. The person wears a pouch across their body with the pouch sitting on the left hip, and a loin cloth. The figure is carved to have short curly hair tied back with a headband. The surface has flaking paint and the entire left foot is missing from the ankle, down. Each foot has a single hole drilled in the bottom.

Mask3323/1

Carved and painted wood mask. Dome-shaped head with two large curved horns - one orange, and the other off-white. Below the horns, on either side, are two large folded ears. On top of the dome, two small raised circular eyes, separated by a triangular design, which extends into a large human-like nose. The flat mouth is wider the the head, and has a wide opening between the jaw. Two holes are drilled through the rim of the mask on each side, with a string tied through the top two holes.

Buffalo Headdress3294/2

Wooden bovine headdress (or mask). The animal has two large, slightly curved horns extending up and over its head. There are two small ears on either side, next to the eyes which are carved in low relief. The snout is long, with nostrils flared at the end, and teeth bared. The teeth, eyes and nostrils show remnants of white paint.

Dress3237/5

Cotton dress. Garment body is rectangular, with three-quarter length sleeves, and a round neck. Hem is below the knees. Torso and shoulders are made of a cotton fabric with peacock feather design on a background of tiny brown leaves and green foliage. Dress bottom, neck panel and arms are black fabric with cotton embroidery showing triangles in red, yellow and white on arms, at hem, and centre of chest and back, while zigzagging lines of embroidery in red, orange, white and green circle the neck. Small red and yellow diamonds edge the bottom of this design.

Helmet Mask2960/15

Dark brown wooden mask carved in the shape of a female head. Carved of a single piece of wood. Eyes are rounded and emphasized with a ring of light coloured earth around the outside. A carved nose protrudes from the centre of the face, nostrils flared, over a slightly open mouth containing small carved teeth. The chin is pointed, cheeks full and round. The ears protrude, each with a hole in the lobe. A carved line around the head indicates a hair line or hat, with a decoration of raised oval lines topping the crown. A large hole is carved through the top of the head into the roughly hollowed out centre of the mask.

Pot2906/2 a-b

Clay pot with lid. The pot is round with a large mouth topped by a thick overhanging rim. Two thick rounded handles each with small finger hole are attached near the neck of the pot. The neck is decorated with several bands of perforations in a variety of linear patterns. The shoulder is sharp and the body is undecorated beneath it. A small round pedestal, hollow, supports the pot and is decorated with a pattern of protruding squares. The lid (part b) is round, concave on the inside, and topped with a small round handle. A ring of incised decoration circles the lid close to its rim. A pigment has been applied inside and out, with some areas of staining. Small gold flecks can been seen over the surface.
