Basketry HatA1465

Basketry hat with primarily plain twined weave with some diagonal twined sections on the brim. Above the crown of the hat are a series of four cylindrical protrusions of plain twined weave around the sides of each, and twined and wicker weave on the underside of each with a hole in the topmost protrusion. Two bands of black on the brim and on the cylindrical protrusion below the topmost protrusion.

Mask (a) made from two pieces of wood joined down the centre of the mask at an angle and supported by a triangular piece of wood at the top. The mask is painted white with heavy black eyebrows, light blue around the circular eyes with a red and blue design element at the temples, red nostrils, a black scalloped design that arches over the cheeks from the nostrils to the chin, a black moustache, red lips, and a black line under the lower lip. A tuft of off-white and brown feathers, some of which are painted blue at the tips, are attached to a wooden stick with blue string and adhesive fabric tape that has been painted blue (b), and the tuft fits into a hole in the top of the mask.

Painted with heavy black eyebrows, blue around the eyes, and red on the nostrils. There is a black painted moustache, a scalloped design in black and red around the mouth area, and a black u-shape with two white circles beside the eyes. The remainder of the face is white. Two bunches of grey, brown and white feathers secured to two wooden sticks with blue string and adhesive white fabric tape (b and c) fit into two holes in the forehead.

WhistleA8148

Brown wood double whistle made of two single whistles of equal length bound together by brown twine. Both pieces are rectangular in cross section and come to a tapering end and are bound in five relatively equally separated places with brown twine. While the wider end is solid on each piece, there is a hollow (two in total) through the tapering end where there is a taper cut rectangular hole (two in total) nearby on one side. Cloth used along the sides of on one piece.

BasketA2300

Rectangular, tan-coloured basket that is rectangular in cross section and that flares upward and outward. Simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with watch-spring base construction and an overcast rim. Decorated with partial imbrication in a continuous design made up of three non-distinct horizontal rows which cover the top two-thirds of the design field. The lower third is filled with bands of vertical check figures in red and white, and black and white.
