Blanket3295/42

Finely hand woven blanket composed of three separately woven pieces which have been stitched together. The blanket is divided into seven wide bands of solid colours running down the length. At centre is a wide band of gold yellow, then on either side is a deep red, then beige, and then a deep brownish-purple on the outer edges.

Hair Tie3486/6

Wasa watana (hair tie) woven in a complementary warp weave. Tassels formed by intersecting warps that are woven as separate bands. Warp fringes. Alpaca fibre, finely spun. Notable for the length of bands and fringe and the large number of intersecting warp bands.

Belt3486/111

Double-faced woven belt (chumpi) finished on one end with braids sewn together. The design features one wide central horizontal band with a repeating geometric diamond motif (loraypu) in light green against a light red background with a stripe highlighting the pattern at the centre of the motif in mustard yellow against a black background. Above and below the band at the centre are two matching bands with repeating off-white wave shapes (hakaku sisan) against an oxblood background. A thin row of light olive, red, and black form the border along the top and bottom edges of the belt.

Hat3486/27

Knitted cap (chullu) made of synthetic yarn with ear flaps, a long chin strap attached to the ear flaps, a long tail (chupan) with a tassel, and a scalloped border. The predominantly dark red cap has alternating horizontal bands of dark red and forest green with multicoloured geometric, ‘S’ shapes, and animal motifs including foxes, hummingbirds, and doves. The design features a band of ‘S’ shapes followed by a row of diamonds and ‘X’ shapes. The next two bands have different types of birds followed by a row of foxes. The band at the transition between the cap and the tail have an ‘S’ motif. The tail of the cap features a row of figures holding hands, followed by alternating rows of birds and geometric or ‘S’ shaped motifs. The scalloped border is dark green with red and white edging. The yarn tassel at the end of the long tail on the top of the cap contains the colours featured in the main motif. Each of the red ear flaps have a light grey and a navy-blue bird facing each other, standing above two triangles. The chin strap is made of orange, forest green and pale grey contained in a navy blue and red border.

Hair Tie3486/23 a-b

Wasa watana (hair tie). Unfinished hair tie (part a) and sample (part b). The hair tie is braided, not woven, but the intersecting bands are inserted into the main band in the same way as woven examples. After insertion, each half of the added band is braided away from the main band. The smaller fragment illustrates an asymmetric insertion of threads for a single band that branches off the main band.

Woven belt (chumpi) in synthetic yarn, finished on one end with braids sewn together. The geometric design is split into rectangles with different figures and motifs in alternating colours of red on black and black on red. The motifs are arranged to show two quadrupeds, a human figure wearing a pointed hat with a tail, a house, a human figure wearing a skirt and brimmed hat, a snake, and two smaller animals. A section of vertical stripes in the same alternating black and red appear at the end finished with braids. The top and bottom edges have a blue border.

Woven belt (chumpi) with a repeating pattern, finished on one end with braids sewn together to form a loop. The main ‘loraypu’ motif features diamonds in red and off-white with hook-shaped decorations. The motif is continued through two horizontal stripes with orange sections replacing the white elements and green sections replacing the red elements. Thin bands of pale yellow, a light greyish-purple, and deep burgundy border the design along the top and bottom edges. The braids on the right end are sectioned together in the same colour groupings that are present throughout the belt.

Thin woven band (jakima) finished on one end in two braids sewn together to form a loop. Alternating red and forest green triangles with yellow dots in a puntas (points) motif repeat across the band, contained in a dark blue border along the top and bottom edges.
