Prayer Cloth3530/2

Long white prayer cloth decorated with vertical blue stripes; twisted fringe on either end. Blue stripes are trimmed with black lines. Wide blue band runs along left side of cloth, close to edge, with differently sized black stripes throughout. Edges and centre of blue band are embroidered with gold thread; embroidery forms a checkered pattern.

Baby Carrier3480/2

Goat hide baby carrier decorated with cowrie shells and trade beads. Carrier is rectangular with long, looped straps attached to the top corners, and shorter strands of hide extending from the bottom corners. Thin strip of hide tied through top straps, at ends. Exterior surface of strip is coloured red; front of hide carrier is red-brown, back is naturally coloured. Straps are covered in rows of alternating cowrie shells and dark blue glass beads. Fringe extends from the bottom edges of the straps, hanging overtop of the carrier body. Fringe is covered in white and dark blue beads. Upper half of carrier has a design of two square outlines. Borders made of rows of alternating cowrie shells and blue beads. Each square has a floral design in the upper corner, made of shells and beads. Hide tab underneath square motifs, with bead covered fringe along its bottom edge. Small cross, made of cowrie shells and beads, along bottom centre of carrier. Interior of carrier is undecorated.

Ammunition Belt3480/4

Leather ammunition belt, with fifty open-ended pockets across its surface for individual bullets. Belt fastens with a metal buckle, attached with a leather tab. Tab is covered by the belt loop. Opposite end of belt is made of a narrow strip of leather, with five adjustment holes along it. Holes are spaced out, at equal intervals, and lined with metal. Entire exterior surface of belt is covered in brocaded decoration. Background is pale orange, with designs overtop done in golden brown. Geometric motifs along all belt edges and edges of pockets. Designs across pockets, belt loop and area around adjustment holes are curvilinear and floral. Back of belt is undecorated.

Fly Whisk3480/3

Fly whisk, consisting of a tooth handle and long strands of white horse hair. Handle has an angled end, and two rings of silver-coloured metal along its length. Top of handle flares out into a semi-circle, with a long wooden rod protruding from the top. Metal wire wrapped around base of rod, with a looped tie, for hanging purposes. Rod is covered in grey and dark brown fibre, woven into design of alternating diagonal lines. Horse hair extends from the sides, front and top of the rod. Hair curves downward naturally, thinning out towards end of whisk.

King of Kings of Ethiopia". Reverse has a crowned lion facing left, holding a banner, Ethiopian text around: “He is triumphant, the lion of the tribe of Judah”. Text under lion obliterated-shows smooth areas only.
