Mittens2977/5 a-b

Pair of seal skin mittens with the fur on the outside. Mittens are made of several pieces of hide sewn together with sinew. They are wide at the base and narrow slightly toward the rounded tops. Thumbs are relatively narrow. Cuffs of the same material are sewn to the wrists of the mittens. The inside is unlined hide.

Pants2977/3

Short pants constructed of seal skin, with a leather waistband attached to the top, and red felt cuffs sewn to each leg bottom. The front of each thigh is covered by a panel of red-painted leather and white fur surrounding an inlay of small colourful leather strips.

Shirt2977/2

Cotton sleeveless shirt, cut straight at the sides and with large arm holes open from shoulder to waist band. The front is a button closure, with five buttons covered with fabric. The collar stands up and is decorated with a thick band of crocheted lace in the same colour as the shirt. On the front of the waist band, and covered when the shirt is closed, is a tag “S181” embroidered in red.

Jacket2977/1

Thick, short jacket that goes on over the head (no front opening). It has pink silk(?) on the arms and chest, with a bottom panel of flowers and foliage on a white background. Around the neck is a large, elaborate collar made of multi-coloured beads that sits on the chest and shoulders. Similar beading is attached to each sleeve at the wrist. Inside each cuff and around the neck is an encircling piece of thick paper to keep the area stiff. The neck and cuffs of the garment are made of black fur. The interior of the coat is lined with white and blue cotton, over a thick padding of red felt.
