Bag3531/5

Square cotton bag with a top opening. Bag is blue and decorated with rows of dots and slashes in between two alternating bands; all designs done in white. The first band design consists of alternating white and blue columns with connected diamonds inside them. A wide white line, filled with blue dots and slashes, runs through the centre of the band. The second band design is trimmed with small white squares filled with blue dots. The design consists of alternating squares with dots, diamonds and diagonal lines inside them. Long fabric handle is attached to left side and tied to a dark blue loop on the other; handle ends in a thick braid. Handle is patterned with alternating rows of knots and ovals; handle is blue, designs done in white.

Long red pants with alternating wide white and thin blue stripe design. White stripes are trimmed on either side with blue, black, green, orange, and dark purple; blue stripes trimmed on either side with black, orange, and purple. Small pleats along front, close to waistline. Pants secure at the waist with a zipper and hook and bar closure. They have seven belt loops and traditional five pockets.

Hat3531/4 a-b

Woven palm leaf hat, fedora-style (part a), with a decorative belt (part b). Hat has a moderately wide brim and crown with a pinched front and back. There are three holes on each side, between the pinched sections, lined with metal. A green plastic ribbon wraps around the base. It has an alternating square motif, consisting of solid green squares and checkered ones with floral motifs in the centre. Separate red leather belt rests around hat base, covering the ribbon. Belt is decorated with columns of holes, lined with metal, along its length; entire belt wrapped in a dark blue wool.

Pants3531/3

Black chaps that secure at the waist with two sets of four white buttons; square indent along back centre of waistline. Two large triangle-shaped slits extend from belt of chaps to bottom edge of leg openings. There are two indigo cloth ties halfway down each slit, holding the inner and outer panels close together. Small decorative indigo bands along inner edge of slits, near top. Bottom edges of leg openings, along back, are trimmed with indigo; rest of back is undecorated.

Shawl3448/26

Rectangular woven grass green shawl with six rows of embroidered figures, animals, birds, and maize in pastel colours. There are horizontal bands embroidered between each row, with exception to the top two. Each band is composed of stripes of pastels colours. The top short edge of the textile has a short fringe, while the bottom short edge has long fringe.

Loom3447/1 a-e

Loom with a partially completed weaving tied to four bars (part a). Weaving attached to bars at the top and bottom with one bar, intertwined in the weaving, towards the bottom, and another attached to the back, towards the bottom. There are three removable swords (parts b-d) and one removable shuttle (part e) stored in the weaving, at the bottom. The attached bars are all made of bamboo. The shuttle (part e) and one of the swords (part c) are made of light yellow-brown wood, the other two swords (parts b and d) are dark brown. The shuttle has notched ends and is wrapped entirely in orange thread. The weaving on part a is orange and has rows of repeated designs across the entire surface. Row designs include: loose chevron pattern, tight chevron pattern, dotted squares, dotted lines, "X" design across length with squares in the negative space, and abstract "V" design across length with squares in the negative space. Designs done in indigo, red, yellow, black, green, dark blue, white and electric blue. Rest of weaving is incomplete and orange in colour, with loose strands of black and yellow throughout. Three metal rings attached to the top and bottom loom bars- one on the top, to the right of the weaving, and two on the bottom, on either side of the weaving.

Long woven garment decorated in a pattern of horizontal stripes, in colours of green, yellow, orange, blue and purple. Full colour stripes alternate with stripes incorporating black zig zags. At each end of the shawl hangs a dense fringe of tassels created from the ends of the shawl fibres.

Huipil, or woman’s shirt. Tunic is made from two long pieces of red wool fabric sewn together vertically, fully open at the sides, with a strip of black velvet at arms and around neck. Front of tunic falls longer than back. Exterior is heavily embroidered with many colours, showing geometric designs at shoulders and waist, interspersed with horizontal strips of fruit and foliage, and multicoloured birds.
