Swallowtail-shaped, embroidered fabric panel. The base fabric of this is light white-brown cotton with course cotton lining of the same colour. There is dark blue piping across the entire top and outer edges of the hanging, and the inner edge (under which you would walk) is rimmed with alternating yellow, red, blue and green ruffles. Around the edge of the hanging on the inside of the piping and ruffles there are embroidered flowers on a vine in varying colours, the most predominant of which are red, green, blue, and yellow. The middle of each flower is a contrasting or opposite colour to the petals and the centre of the flower is a smaller circle in either the colour of the petals or a third contrasting colour. The flowers are done in a herringbone or chain stitch. There are many figures depicted on the hanging including elephants, peacocks, horses, deer, cows, flower pots bursting with flowers, swastika sun symbols, mango fruits, the Sanskrit letter “Aum”, the Monkey god Hanuman, the goddess of wealth Lakshmi, Lord Krishna and his consort Radha and in the centre is the Hindu elephant god Ganesh.
Short sleeve, backless embroidered blouse with long front panel. Predominantly bright pink with multi-coloured embroidery, the central embroidered designs on the blouse are in the shape of cowrie shells. There are two square designs embroidered over the breasts. Within the square designs are smaller embroidered squares and appliqué circular mirrors. There are also cotton puffs with beads on the top in both of the squares, as well as throughout the entire design. The bottom half of the blouse has a ‘U’ shape embroidered design which includes the cowrie shell technique, rectangles with appliqué mirrors in the centre and cotton puffs. There is also a flower motif embroidered on the inside edge of the ‘U’ shape. On the sleeves of the blouse there is a shield pattern with a flower whorl embroidered in the centre of the shield. Around the shield are several cotton puffs also with beads on top. Around the outer edge of the blouse there is a coloured pattern that includes triangles embroidered from both coloured cotton thread and gold thread. To finish off the edge of the blouse there is a multi-coloured stripe. On the bottom of the blouse, in both corners and in the centre, are small tassels with shells and a cotton puff. On the back of the sleeves there is a darker multi-coloured material.
Small, ring-shaped cushion decorated with white cowrie shells. The inside core of the carrier is filled with grass which has then been covered by a heavy blue cotton and stitched tightly together in order to retain the circular shape. On the outside of the carrier there is a repeating quatra-foil pattern made from cowrie shells. The top and bottom edge is trimmed with a circle of cowrie shells sewn end to end. There are two tassels made of folded and sewn blue cotton that are sewn on to the inside of the carrier, each with a single cowrie shell sewn to the end. Around the inside of the carrier there are remnants of a red piece of cloth which has been worn away in several places.
Semi-circular, dark brown, wooden comb, carved from a single piece of wood. The tines of the comb are carved in a semi-circular shape, leaving a border of solid wood along the curved edge of the comb. The comb is thicker along the curved edge, and tapers to a thin, flat edge where the tines taper to a point. There is an incised design on the thicker top edge as well as one on each side of the comb where the tines begin. The pattern on the thick edge is of two diamond shapes on either side of several straight lines in the centre. The pattern on the sides is of a series of circles with dots in the middle set between two solid lines, and the pattern follows the curve of the comb's edge. All of the designs have been painted silver. At each the two corners of the flat edge of the comb, on both sides, there are three pom-poms attached to the wood (12 pom-poms in total). The pom-poms are light green, light red and light yellow.
Short sleeve, backless embroidered blouse with long front panel. Strings attached at the neck and the midriff tie up at the back of the blouse. The pattern on the main fabric of the blouse is horizontal stripes in a colour pattern of brown, black, green, and yellow. On both shoulders and over each breast there is an embroidered flower motif with two circles of appliqué mirrors, one around the outside edge and a smaller circle on the inside. Down the centre and along the sleeves of the blouse is an intricately embroidered ‘tab’ which also contains an appliqué mirror border and a single line of appliqué mirrors in the centre of the ‘tab’. There are also three fully represented and two half represented ‘chicken’ pattern designs. Around the bottom edges of the blouse and on the cuffs of the sleeves there is a yellow material with red dots. On either side of the blouse there is the same material but in red with a green border. The tie at the top of the blouse is black.
Rectangular, fabric face cover made from a thin, green material that has been lined with a thicker, red floral material. There are two eye holes, one of which has a red embroidered border and the other of which has a yellow and red embroidered border. Down the centre of the cover, between the eyes, a nose-like shape is embroidered that comes halfway down the cover and ends in a circular design. Within the nose-like design there is a red, blue and yellow embroidered pattern. There is a black square border that encloses the eye holes, nose-like pattern, six small mirrors which have an embroidered border, and small embroidered flowers. Outside the black border, on three of the sides, are more mirrors with embroidered borders. Beyond the mirrors, on the outer most borders, there is a wavy white-brown line of applique. There is a beaded fringe around the outer edge of the face cover, consisting of multi-coloured beads in a triangle pattern. At the top of the mask, there are two long red threads that have been tied together. There are beads on the threads where they both attach to the face cover and where thy tie together.
Patola ceremonial cloth of silk, dyed blue, red and cream with an ikat warp and weft resist technique. The geometric jewel motif (ratan chok bhat), runs down the centre of the cloth and there is a border of stripes on either side, one of which has been machine-sewn on. The long edges are machine-hemmed and the ends have been cut. A smaller piece (b) has been machine-hemmed on all sides.
Beaded panel with seven lower pointed segments. The main panel and segments are entirely beaded, with multicoloured designs on white ground. The main panel has human figures, other figures, elephant, bird, duck, tree and floral motifs. The pointed segments each have a single large figure. The figures are repeated on the outer segments; the middle figure is unique. All the edges have a red and green border. The upper edge has six brown hanging loops. The backside is lined with red cotton.
Rattan and bamboo(?) fan covered in small beads with dark green, yellow, blue, red, light green and navy designs on a white background. The fan has a semi-circular body that indents at the back to form a rectangular shaped stem that attaches to the cylindrical shaped handle. Around the outer edge of the fan are multi-coloured birds followed by stripes. The centre holds a large plant surrounded by peacocks and lions. The handle is decorated with multi-coloured stripes. The back of the fan is covered in pink, cotton cloth.
Square, cream, cotton textile detailed with purple, red, orange, yellow, green and pink geometric patterns. The central motif forms a square with small circular mirrors in the centre and around the outer edge. The border of the textile is black with a green, red, blue and white triangular, beaded fringe. At each point of the triangles is a thin, circular piece of metal. The corner sections have larger beads and small sections of purple fringe.
