Part of a woman’s ornamental headdress that consists of two large, stiff, flat, (roughly) semi-circular pieces, each made of two layers of animal skin (probably lamb or goat), with short, dark curly hair intact, glued together back to back. The top edge of each semi-circle comes to a point, and when worn, the pieces protrude from the sides of the head, resembling large ears. The two pieces are attached together at the bottom end, and as well, are attached with a 7 cm ‘bridge’ made of twisted wool fibre at about mid-point. One side of each of these ‘ears’ is plain, without further adornment, while the reverse side is embellished at the bottom end with five rows of braided cords made of coarse wool fibre. These cords are glued or sewn onto the surface of each ‘ear,’ and then extend down the back of the wearer for approximately 116 cm; they are tied together about 57 cm from the bottom. Ee70 b is a length of loosely twisted wool yarn, with a decorative brass hook at the each end.
A simple bleached gauze-like unsewn cotton fabric. Near each end, there are some weft fibres absent, creating a fringe effect with closed ends.
Burgundy men’s shirt of heavy woven cotton with polished outside and felted inside. The shirt has a quilted standing collar, tapered sleeves and side slits. The side opening has metal frog closures engraved with swastikas. There is a pocket on the right inner flap. The inside is unlined. There is a white stamp of the map of India on the inner front.
Black cotton skirt with bold printed border floral-like design in various tones of yellow, orange and light brown. Material is sewn together to form a tubular shape but has no other finishing than the three machine-stitched seams. Along the edge in blue is the bears commercial stamp 'Burmese Style A-Fents' and map of India motif.
Long magenta silk shawl. The shawl is hand-woven with a row of black chain stitch and a long fringe on the ends.
Hat with brim of black lambs wool. A coarse brown woven wool cloth lining gives the hat its form. Over this is sewn a blue silk-like fabric with a darker blue overall pattern and circular gold Chinese designs. A band of black lambs wool 10 cm wide is sewn on the inside and is turned up with peaks at the ears. Across the front, the 3 cm wide band of black lamb skin is sewn on with two bands of bright green and pink binding.
Hand-woven cotton sash made of 3 pieces of fabric sewn together lengthwise. Purple outer borders with two narrow parallel stripes in black. Inner piece is natural in colour with purple and black stripes near edges. Decorated at the ends with multi-strand cotton in a chain-like furcate stitch across the piece.
Woman’s unlined, untanned goat hide cape (raw hide on one side, and coarse, long, off-white, slightly wavy hair on the reverse side). The body of the cape is roughly U-shaped, with unfinished edges; on each side edge, the cape is pieced with small rectangular strips. The top edge of the cape is slightly curved, and a triangular flap of goat hide is attached at each upper corner. A length of brown braided cord connects the two flaps, and there is a piece of twisted brown and off-white wool fibre loosely looped over this cord. On the hide side, three narrow strips of hide are sewn to the top edge, with the hair side facing outward.
Plain weave, cotton apron; tightly woven with a firm texture. Three pieces of fabric are joined by two machine stitched seams. Long self-covered ties on each side. Lined with green sized mill cotton, printed with floral pattern. The design of the fabric is narrow horizontal stripes of identical width in deep shades of green, reds and blue, sewn together to offset stripes of centre panel.
Tightly woven cotton (?) textile with width-wise stripes in multi-colours of green, blue, purple, grey and maroon, along with black and white, are of varying degrees of thinness.
