Shoulder BagNi29

One piece square plain woven bag folded in half has three vertical rows of dark brown wool woven into warp at each end on both sides; sewn at sides with dark brown wool using a v shaped diagonal running stitch or stroke stitch; dark brown wool in cross knit loop stitch along upper edge. The design is identical on both sides and consists of an eight pointed star with four blue lines extending from centre, black and light blue stitches frame star. The border has a green herringbone stitches over middle of vertical brown warps; geometric linear pattern in pink called fret design. Strap is a separate plain woven band, two stripes of dark brown wool are woven into the warp. The strap ends are twisted together and knotted at apex opposite ends are sewn to upper corners of bag.

Flat square folded bag with cross stitched red and blue diagonal zigzag design; yellow cross knit loop stitch border on top and sides. There are green, orange and red pompoms attached to the lower corner on the left by red and black twisted yarn; green and orange pompom attached with red twisted yarn to lower corner on right. The woven strap is braided at apex; it has two equidistant black bands orange-pink ground, each end sewn with pink yarn to upper corners of bag.

Flat square folded bag with cross stitch design has woven shoulder strap with ends twisted and tied at apex, other ends stitched to each corner at open end of bag; yellow cross knit loop stitch finish on sides and at open end of bag. Two pompoms, pink and blue, are attached to each lower corner. Design on red ground consists of vertical blue lines with chevrons, alternating direction on each line, and diamonds with yellow crosses. Strap is dark blue with two solid pink vertical lines.

Small flat square bag with long woven shoulder strap with yellow and red horizontal stripes. The bag consists of one flat piece of material folded in half and stitched together along each side with a cross knit loop stitch, similar stitch used to finish top edges. The design is of repeating interlocking diamonds with interior diamonds bordered by v forms entirely cover material using a continuous running stitch; slight variations occur in colour and pattern with the interior diamonds. Red and green pompoms are tied to each bottom corner. Strap, twisted and tied at apex, ends sewn to each corner at open end of bag; design is a series of horizontal lines bordered on both sides by solid line.

Small square folded bag with woven strap, twisted and tied at apex. Two double pompoms attached to each lower corner by twisted yarn. The edging on three sides is in blue cross knit loop stitch. The central design is on a red ground and is composed of repeating paired pattern of angular eight pointed star with interior design of four lines, pointed in centre and curled at ends, placed end to end around a square with a central cross. Along the centre are two, eight pointed flowers each having four, two leaf stems with diamond flowers, projecting in each cardinal direction; partial flowers and stems repeated at edges; each face has a different border design. Strap has alternating red and white cross and x design with a green border; folded in half along length; ends stitched to upper corners of bag.

Hat composed of braided strips of palm leaf sewn together with red cloth folded over the rim and stitched in place. Two strips of red cloth run over the crown in a cross shape with mutlicoloured yarn ornamenting the top, and four smaller red fabric crosses placed around the brim. A beaded band of orange, green, blue and yellow flowers on yellow with black borders is tied with blue cord around the base of the crown from which extend seven groups of white feathers. The feathers rest on the brim and are joined with lengths of orange cord, the ends, placed behind the beaded band, are knotted and extend beyond the band at the top. Along the underside of the rim are 15 beaded floral square tassels with rectangular extensions. A chin strap of blue woven band with yellow horizontal stripes has twisted and knotted ends with floral beaded square tassels attached.

Tobacco ContainerNi54 a-e

Five small rounded gourds joined together with lengths of twisted palm fibre(?), cord and yarn. Each gourd is pierced at sides near top, cord is inserted and knotted, gourd with red yarn passes through without being knotted. Each gourd has small round hole at top, and two have stoppers (parts a and d). Two undecorated gourds (parts d and e), while remaining three have external decorations: 1) deer skin, some hair remains (part a); 2) grid pattern created by wrapping orange- pink, blue, yellow and red yarn horizontally and vertically (part b); 3) grey- brown cloth with red cross stitching in eight pointed star, top and sides sewn with blue yarn, tassels at each lower corner (part c).

Square cream cotton cape finished on two sides with hem-like stitch while the other sides have two equal strips of red flannel. Below the flannel is a stitched band of yellow stars on a blue, green and pink ground. That band is followed by a repeating bird pattern in red and blue. In the top centre are two orange stars with a red triangular pattern emanating from its points.
