The Fifty-Three Post Stations of the Tokaido HighwayN2.1210

Print depicting three people walking in the snow. Groups of houses in the background are covered with snow. Trees frame each side. Overall colours are orange, black, grey, and white. Print of Kambara Station (#15). This is one of a series of reproductions of the "53 Post Stations on the Tokaido Hwy," from Nihonbashi to Kyoto (Hoei-do edition). Print is matted on a piece of white-yellow paper and has an additional cover page that folds over the print. A printed inscription on the cover page reads: " KAMBARA From Fujimiya Station, walking along the old road, then across the Fuji River, one reaches Iwabushi, and finds the same geographical features as pictured." There are Japanese characters at the top, bottom, and side of the printed message.

Print depicting a large green, blue, yellow, brown, grey, and black cliff amongst smaller, more distant mountaintops. Two people travel down the side of the mountain. The cliff hangs over a body of water. There is a yellow and white skyline. Print of Hakone Station (#10). This is one of a series of reproductions of the "53 Post Stations on the Tokaido Hwy," from Nihonbashi to Kyoto (Hoei-do edition). Print is matted on a piece of white-yellow paper and has an additional cover page that folds over the print. A printed inscription on the cover page reads: "HAKONE Generally considered the most unique of the Tokaido series. It is an unusual example of a very fine print using only primary colors. The view which shows in one picture Mt. Komagadake with Mt. Fuji on the opposite side of the circle of the lake, is particular ingenious." There are Japanese characters at the top, bottom, and side of the printed message.

Print of a scene with two people standing on a path amongst some trees. There are round, grey mountains in the background. Depiction of the Hiratsuka Station (#7). This is one of a series of reproductions of the "53 Post Stations on the Tokaido Hwy." from Nihonbashi to Kyoto (Hoei-do edition). The print is mounted on a yellow-white matte paper and has a cover page that flips over the image. The cover page has a printed inscription that reads: " HIRATSUKA Just beyond the present Hiratsuka Station, approaching Oiso, on the Tokaido Railroad Line. The round-topped mountain is Mt. Komayama; Mt. Fuji and Mt. Oyama are to the right." There are Japanese characters on the top, the bottom and the side of the printed message.
