Wide white border on left, narrower border at bottom. Bottom sample shows evenly spaced, multi-coloured and variously decorated discs in off-set rows on a solid black ground. Very narrow white border at right, slightly wider at bottom. Mounting paper folds from left over part of samples.

A light beige mask (part a) with upraised eyebrows outlined with black diagonal lines and four curvy horizontal lines carved for furrows at the brow. The slightly oval inset eyes bulge out at an angle as the high cheek bone angles to a downward bulge. The open cut out red mouth has upper teeth. The moustache and the goatee are painted with curved black lines. Hair curls over the top of the head along the edges from a set of holes. The beard is done in a similar manner. The pupils of the eyes and the nostrils are also cut out. The bag (part b) is cream coloured with a flower in a hexagon pattern. The bag has two brown ties outlined with green, one on the side and the other on the overlaying flap to tie and close the bag together.

Sample is floral scene, thick and fibrous, mounted on white cardboard (a): areas of yellow and green fibre mix slightly with one another giving cloud-like appearance to background. Dark brown base area has course, straight, thick multi-strand dark green fibrous pieces arranged in grass-like clumps. Projecting from these are a few long, dark green stems on which are arranged small white-petalled flowers with yellow centres and white buds. Some circular watermarks, most at base. Part (a) is protected with rectangular piece of white gauze and all within Part (b), folder of thick, heavy roughened yellow-white paper, flap opening from left, all edges retain an irregular deckle edge. Brown rectangular strip placed vertically on front has black Japanese script.

Part (a) is a yellow-white paper folder. Part (b) is a white cardboard folder. Part (c) is green paper with designs. Part (d) is tan paper with designs. Part (a) is a thick, heavy roughened yellow white paper, folded, flap opening from left, all edges retain an irregular deckle edge. Brown rectangular strip on front has black Japanese script. Part (b) is a thick cardboard folder with Japanese and English writing inside the front cover. Part (c) is green sample paper with design of two flowers with many petals, various-sized round lilies in a pond, and a double pine cone piece lying on one lily. Design only revealed when sheet is held up to light. Part (d) is tan sample paper with central design of jar, quickly swelling from small circular base and tapering to short widely flared mouth. Around circumference, zigzag line at shoulder; other bands of lines and geometric motifs above. Clarity striking only when sheet is held up to light.

Cardboard folder (a) encloses five (b-g) thin cardboards, numbered, 'Papers of the World' supplementary sheets, each has six labelled square samples in two horizontal rows of 3. Samples on No. 1 (b) are from China, all are white or near white except centre bottom (1-5) which is light white-brown. All have closely spaced horizontal and some have wider vertical watermark pattern. 1-1, 1-2 and 1-5 are wrinkled. Sheet is creased at bottom and left and along top left to centre. Samples on No. 2 (c) are all from China, 2-1 is near white, lined watermark, diagonally creased; 2-2 to 2-4 are light white/brown, darker fibres and lined watermark; 2-5 is pink with swirls of various densities and colour; 2-6 is white, lined watermark and darker fibres. Slight crease at bottom left of sheet. Samples on No. 3 (d) are from Korea, 3-1 is white and fibrous, 3-2 is thin, light white/brown; 3-3 is near white, 3-4 is light white/brown with numerous darker flecks and flakes; 3-5 is blue on top surface with green hair-like fibres; 3-6 is light white/brown with fibres. Samples on No. 4 (e) are from South and Southeast Asia, 4-1 is light white/brown with darker fibres and a plain-weave-like watermark; 4-2 is light white/brown with dark flecks, thin; 4-3 is slightly darker; is stiff, brown with dark flecks and watermark lines; 4-5 is white with some dark specks; 4-6 is stiff white/brown with horizontal lines and darker flecks. Samples on No. 5 (f) are from India and Europe; 5-1 is stiff, near white with horizontal ribbed lines; 5-2 is brown with darker flecks and lined watermark; 5-3 is light white/brown with numerous darker flecks; 5-4 is dark grey with horizontal lined watermark; 5-5 is near white with imbedded leaves and plant material; 5-6 is stiff light yellow/white with pebble surface. Samples on No. 6 (g) are from Italy and England, 6-1 is light grey, slightly ribbed horizontally with ragged right edge; 6-2 is light is light white/yellow; 6-3 is near white, pebbled; 6-4 is white card.

Series of floating doll-like figures in kimonos, sashes which are long in the back, and headdresses, all on a pink ground. Figures are variously decorated and face both forward and back. All have blank white faces and black chin length hairdos. White border on all sides. Black characters in vertical row at bottom left. Mounting paper folds from left. Mounting paper folds from top over part of sample.
