The Fifty-Three Post Stations of the Tokaido HighwayN2.1212

Print of a group of people crossing a shallow body of water. There are four men carrying another man who sits in a covered tented platform. Another man sits on the back of a horse. There are several small trees, a larger body of water, and an overhanging cliff in the background. Print of Okitsu Station (#17). This is one of a series of reproductions of the "53 Post Stations on the Tokaido Hwy," from Nihonbashi to Kyoto (Hoei-do edition). Print is matted on a piece of white-yellow paper and has an additional cover page that folds over the print. A printed inscription on the cover page reads: "OKITSU Just this side of Shimizu Harbour on the sea. The stream and rocks remain the same. The stout men in the print are wrestlers." There are Japanese characters at the top, bottom, and side of the printed message.
