Basket3489/21

Woven basket with a circular opening and flat, square base. Lip of basket is folded over, onto the exterior sides. Lip forms a wide, plain border along the top edge. Bottom edge of lip is stitched flat to basket sides. Small loop handle at front centre of basket, along bottom edge of lip. Handle consists of two plant fibre bundles knotted together.

Basket3489/19

Rectangle-like basket with attached lid. Container has a circular opening, flaring out to curved shoulders. Body is square, with rounded sides, and has a short foot, made of rattan(?) strips. Basket and lid are dyed and woven in horizontal chevrons. Structure of lid and basket made from exterior coils of rattan(?), covered in dyed golden brown plant fibre. Basket and lid are coloured brown-red and have dark brown decorations throughout. Decorations consist of dash lines, forming connected diamonds. Bottom of basket and top of lid have large dark brown “X”’s, with square centres. Lid is fitted and covers top of basket, down to the flared shoulders. Top of lid has a raised square rim, made of rattan(?) strips. Sides are rounded. Lid is attached to basket with braided cord, threaded through exterior coils of lid and basket. Excess cord at top of lid, allowing it to lift away from basket opening. When fully removed from basket, lid hangs along side.

Circular basket, with incurved sides, rounded base and short foot. Naturally coloured and woven in intersecting, diagonal lines. Rim is braided and foot consists of bundled plant fibres. Structure of basket is formed with an internal coil of rattan(?), along the bottom edge of the sides. Base has a spiral swirl motif in the centre, made of thin strips of rattan(?). Edges of basket base protrude sharply overtop foot.

Woven basket with circular opening and square base. Is naturally coloured and woven in alternating sections of horizontal and vertical chevrons. Lip of basket is formed by an exterior coil of rattan(?), covered in plant fibre. Thin braid of plant fibre attached to top of coil. Small loop, made of braided plant fibre, tied to back centre of basket opening. Sides and base are rounded, bottom corners are slightly pointed.

Hat3489/11

Woven conical hat with tiered, rod brim. All rods are naturally coloured. Hat is done in three sections with vertical bands of geometric patterns in their centres. Section backgrounds are naturally coloured. Bands are rows of concentric diamonds, painted black. Five vertical lines, done in red, run through pattern. Central line is wider than others. Sections are bordered by rods, covered in coils of red plant fibre. Coiled materials extend upward, over top of hat, and create a three-arched loop. Tip of hat is black and red, with red geometric motifs throughout.

Musical Instrument3489/6

Mouth organ (sompoton) made of bamboo pipes inserted into a dried gourd, sealed together with bees wax. Pipes are bundled together, with plant fibre ties, in two rows of four. Pipes in top row are all the same height, length of bottom pipes vary. Small holes along sides of pipes on outer edges. Gourd mouth piece has a circular body and long, thin neck that extends to the side.

Sides of gong slope inwards. Two holes drilled along top side with dark green nylon(?) cord strung through them. Knot tied towards bottom of cord, for hanging purposes.

Basket3489/14

Pyramid-like basket, with circular opening and rectangular base. Has a short foot rim, made of rattan(?) strips. Basket opening shaped with three exterior coils of rattan(?). The top one is wrapped in dyed dark brown plant fibre, the middle is a wide, naturally coloured strip, and the bottom one is a thin dark brown strip. Coils are all tied together with dark brown plant fibre and plastic. Basket is naturally coloured and woven in alternating sections of horizontal and vertical chevrons. Two rods are intertwined through the basket, to secure braided shoulder straps. Rods form an “M” shape on the front and an upside down “U” on the back. Some sections of the “M” and “U” are only visible from the interior of the basket. The outer lines of the “M”, visible from the exterior, are wrapped in dark brown plant fibre. Above them, overtop where the rods are visible from the interior, are two zigzag designs, done in dark brown. Straps are attached to the front bottom edge of the basket and form an “X” shape. The straps extend overtop of the basket, loop through the rods on the basket back, and then circle around the base of the basket.

Surface of gong is tiered-like, with knob on raised portion that gently slopes towards edges. Sides of gong taper inward slightly. Two holes drilled along tops of sides with green nylon(?) cord strung through them. Knot tied towards middle of cord, for hanging purposes.
