Drumstick3521/2

Drumstick with a cane body set into a wood handle, topped with a black metal ferrule. Cane body curves twice, in middle and near top; top curve ends in a curl. Body has a hook-like appearance. Handle is an irregularly shaped cylinder with a flattened front; tapers into an oval-shaped base. Bands of raised vertical rectangles carved along length; plain rings throughout. Bottom section of cylinder, that tapers, is decorated with incised vertical lines. Triangular channel carved into front of handle, near bottom edge.

Toy3408/2

Wooden toy truck carved from tree branch with bark attached. Carved to a point at the front. The front seat is covered with a cloth canopy, and there is a flat bed at back with four roped together vertical pegs. The steering wheel and tires are all cross-sections of branch. The wheels are threaded on axels with a small wooden peg on either end. There are two bumpers extending from the back of the truck.

Wooden toy car (part a) with trailer (part b) carved from tree branch with bark attached. Car tapers to a point at the front, and has a front seat and back seat. The steering wheel and tires are all cross-sections of branch. The wheels of the car and trailer are threaded on axels with a small wooden peg on either end. The two-wheeled trailer has a storage compartment on top created by eight vertical pegs. The trailer attaches to the car with a hitch and peg.

Toy Puppet3408/3

Toy string puppet Brahma bull. The bull is composed of many wooden parts, which are attached at the joints by string or nails. The bull is white with black hooves, grey horns, and red ears, nostrils and collar and is decorated with copper metallic paper cut out patterns. Attached by many strings to a red wooden control bar composed of a single long piece of wood with two cross-bars.

Large rectangular woven textile with fringe along the short edges. Composed of three long pieces sewn together. The weave is beige with embroidered geometric designs of stars, steps, triangles and lines in light green, dark green, red, pink, dark blue and yellow-gold. Pockets for hanging sewn to back along the long edge of both the top and bottom.

Hat is four-sided and tall with a flat top. The hat is woven in the Dhaka weaving style with red, yellow and black shapes on a white base forming the pattern. The interior is lined with a white cotton fabric and a small tag with yellow Nepalese lettering, which is sewn to the interior brim.

Boot Strap397/6 e

Boot strap composed of a woven band with several bands of colour in blue, green, red, dark red, off-white, and cream. Two central bands of blue and green are decorated with a geometric and woven pattern in off-white featuring repeated bands, chevrons, and diamond shapes. The ends are composed of loose threads twisted into strands.

Sling397/7

Sling with a diamond shape in the middle and loops at the ends. The sling is composed of black and white fibre in alternating patterns on the straps, and a concentric diamond pattern at the centre with a band of red through it. A band of off-white woven wool feeds through the smaller loop at one end and is knotted to itself.

Robe397/6 a

Man’s floor length dark red, A-line robe, with asymmetrical front opening and 5.5 cm wide neckband. Left front overlaps the right front and extends to the right underarm seam. No closures. The robe constructed from long, narrow (18-19cm) strips of hand woven woolen textile that are hand stitched together, edge to edge. The textile is heavy and ‘rustic;’ it is woven from variegated red yarn (ranging from light red to deep red), giving an irregular horizontal striped effect. Long, straight sleeves. Neck area and cuffs are faced with strips of blue-green cotton textile, but the robe is otherwise unlined.

Vest397/6 b

Man’s vest, made from narrow vertical strips of hand woven, ‘rustic,’ dark-red wool textile that have been sewn together edge to edge; the strips have been cut and shaped to fit closely at the shoulders and flare out at the hem. The vest (front and back) is overlaid from shoulders to the waist with a patchwork of plain gold-thread textile and gold brocade with floral motifs in red and pink with green foliage. An 11 cm wide strip of a more finely woven dark red wool textile extends from the front edge of each arms eye, continues over the shoulders and down the back of the vest to about waist level. A 23.5 cm wide strip of the same finely woven dark red textile, folded lengthwise in half, has been applied at the centre front edges and extends around the neck to form a high collar; this strip is longer on the right side than on the left. A piece of bright red cotton broadcloth has been loosely tacked over this strip, leaving a section on the lower right uncovered. No closures. Voluminous. Unlined.
