Colourful wooden mask with two long ear panels and a red crested headdress of plant fibre. The red painted face, tattooed in yellow and black, is triangular-shaped with round shell eyes placed into the hollow eye sockets. The large mouth has two boar-like teeth amongst the smaller ones. From each nostril, a ring or band connects to the spotted ears, into which are carved a crested bird (rooster?) with shell eyes, a yellow and black snake and a small red flying fish. The headdress has an interior frame of rattan onto which are tied leaves and fibres.

Colourful wooden mask with a large yellow crested headdress of plant fibre. The red and yellow tattooed face is triangular-shaped with round shell eyes placed into the hollow eye sockets, the large hollowed mouth has four curving boar-like teeth amongst the smaller ones and a tongue(?) that hangs out to touch a necklace that connects to dangling earrings. The headdress has an interior frame of rattan onto which are tied the leaves and fibres.

Shark Calling Rattle2716/28

One part of a three piece artistic representation of the attributes of the "shark caller". Curved fragments of coconut shell, which are strung onto two strips of rattan bound together into a loop handle, make a rattling sound when shaken.

Rectangular-shaped wood carving of a figure with the base end finishing in a short spike. Figure holds out to the front a pair of barbed poles between which a snake winds up to the chin. Poles, body and face are covered with sharply painted decoration in white, ochre, red and black pigments; the back is unpainted.

Long, tall wood sculpture. Has green oval inset eyes surrounded bya downward curving red band pointing toward the thin nose which has a bit of hair ? underneath at either side. The open red mouth is showing black teeth. Has a red body with the hands holding a long, thin serrated object in front of it while a smaller length of the same serration is at either side to the elbows. Wearing a tall headdress that is has a black helmet-like feature with four thin upward curving protrusions all around that are decorated with serrations and downward pointing red and black triangles. Standing on a plain, cylindrical wood pedestal.

One-piece wand carved from dark brown hard wood. Shaft flattens out and flares to paddle shapes at both ends. Curve of ends and shaft elevated by carving out large sections between the two. Dark brown patina.
