Woven ropes for climbing trees (part a-b). One end has a circular band attached to the rope. The other end thins to single strands.

Mask2704/1 a-c

Mami Wata mask. Oval pink face mask (part a). On top of the mask sits a yellow figure with movable arms, wearing a black hat and green dress. Also on top are two black circles with mirrors on movable posts and a yellow curved piece with two mirrors. The mask itself has painted black hair, various designs and red lips with white teeth. There are oval openings for the wearer's eyes. A second yellow curved piece with two mirrors is loose (part b). A carved wooden umbrella painted dark brown is part c. The back is unpainted.

Head ScarfAf456 c

Head-tie that together with a blouse (Af456 a) and a skirt (Af456 b) forms a costume or a suit. The tie is a rectangular length of fabric consisting of four strips of black cotton sewn together. Both warp and weft have gold metallic stripes; supplementary weft floats of gold silk in solid linear design occur at regular intervals within each strip, but occur randomly in the overall pattern. Ends are unfinished and unstitched between three of the strips.

SkirtAf456 b

Skirt that is part of a costume or suit with a blouse (Af456 a) and a head tie (Af456 c). It has short sleeves, rounded neck, and is composed of narrow black cotton strips sewn together; decorated with four vertical rows of gold metallic thread per strip and three horizontal rows repeated within each strip but not aligned between strips. A linear, solid geometric pattern occurs randomly, in gold, silk thread.

Chess Game Pieces2704/43 a-ff

A complete set of 32 chess pieces in light and dark wood. The pieces differ from the traditional forms. The 16 pawns are women with short hair and breasts (a-h, q-x). The 4 knights are giraffes (i, j, y, z). The 4 bishops are men with pointed visor-like hat (k, l, aa, bb). The 4 rooks are posts with pointed roofs (m, n, cc, dd). The 2 queens are women with rounded crowns (o, ee). The 2 kings are men wearing a pointed hat (p, ff).

Drum2704/42

Tall, narrow drum with a skin top. The circular skin top is stretched down and tied with bark to a double woven band around the middle of the drum. Into the woven band are pushed nine carved stakes. The stakes are pointed and vary in length and shade. The drum is unpainted wood, broad at the top and tapers to the base. The interior is hollow.

Drum with three long legs and a skin top. The drum is painted with a reddish pigment. The circular skin top is stretched down and tied with bark to a double woven band around the middle of the drum. Into the woven band are pushed nine carved stakes. The stakes are short, pointed and unpainted. The drum is round and one piece with three thick, irregularly carved legs.

Udu style percussion instrument. The pot has a rounded bottom, a round body and a long neck with a flared rim. There is a ridge around the centre. Above the ridge is a round hole; with bands of incised lines to and around the neck. Pot is covered with a brown pigment.
