Moccasins3558/15 a-b

Pair of ankle-high hide moccasins with ties at front; interior is unlined. Top of toe and long flap wrapping around back of heel are covered with cloth panels with beaded decorations. Designs consist of pink flowers with green leaves on a white background; dark red highlights throughout flowers. White beads border edges of flaps; edges of toe panels are undecorated. Moccasin openings are lined with white fur.

Knife3558/10

Ulu type knife. Metal blade is crescent-shaped with a beveled bottom edge. Blade held in place by bronze metal plates on both sides, that slot into the underside of the handle. Three copper nails have been hammered through the bronze plate into the blade to hold it in place, with the ends smoothed to blend with the bronze plate. The handle is a rectangular piece of horn, with a curved top edge. A hide cord is tied around centre of handle.

Doll3502/6

Male doll, in standing position, with a stone face. Eyes are incised; nose, mouth and full cheeks are carved in relief. Small holes in nose, imitating nostrils. Tattoos incised across face, consisting of an arrow, and linear, curvilinear and circular motifs. Body is carved out of whale bone. Seal fur attached throughout, imitating fur trimmed clothing. Male is wearing a hooded parka with a long flap, pants, mittens and boots. Hood covered in fox fur, face opening trimmed with deer fur. Artist inscription on stone tag tied to doll’s left hand.

Harpoon3508/2 a-b

Harpoon (part a) with a detachable head (part b). Harpoon has a cylindrical steel shaft inserted into a wider wooden handle. Ends of wood are capped with copper(?). Hide cord wrapped around bottom end in a loose spiral, before tightening into a thick band; hide acts as a handgrip. Second hide tie knotted around base of metal shaft. Top of shaft tapers to a point, for head to fit on. Harpoon head consists of an oval-shaped blade, with a sharp point, welded to a triangular holder. Long rope line strung through hole drilled into centre of holder, creating a large loop. Rope is secured together at intervals.

Small bundle of six bone tools, held together with a sinew cord. Holes sinew is strung through are drilled near the top edge of all tools. Four tools have curved tops and pointed ends; other two are flat and have sloped tips. Pointed tools grouped together on left side of bundle, flat tools on right side.

Sinew Twister Tool3508/10

Small bundle of four sinew twister tools, held together on a hide string. Holes hide is strung through are drilled through the centres of tools. String is knotted on the right side, untied along left. Two tools towards right end of cord are flat, and have rectangle-shaped tops and tapered ends. Two on left side are curled on both ends, giving the tools an overall “S" shape.

Boots3508/4 a-b

Pair of boots made of wolf skin. Legs and vamps are covered in white fur, soles are light brown hide. On either side of the boot heels are two long hide ties, meant to be secured around the ankles. The top openings are edged with canvas-like material, through which is threaded a dark pink drawstring. Bottom edges of openings are trimmed with three decorative bands. Top rows have an alternating white and dark blue triangle motif; second are plain yellow; third are green with scalloped edges, with a shiny, gold-coloured diamond motif overtop. Interiors are unlined.
