Mamulengo string puppet (marionette) of a 'Rosinha' character. Head, hands and feet carved from wood and painted. She has orange skin, an open mouth with red lips, and wide eyes with eyelashes. She has long, curly black hair. She wears pink floral pants and a long-sleeved red floral top. The fabric is adhered to the hands and head, and wrapped with shiny pastel green ribbon at the wrists, ankles, and around the waist. Attached by several black strings to a wooden T-shaped control bar.

String Puppet3352/7

Mamulengo string puppet (marionette) of a man riding a 'burrinha' or ox characters. Heads, hands and feet are carved from wood and painted. The man has orange-pink skin, painted black hair, straight mouth with red lips, and large oval black eyes. He wears a long-sleeved yellow with blue floral shirt, and yellow with multicoloured heart pattern pants. The black and white ox has long black leather ears, and a curly black tail. A red with multicoloured floral pattern skirt extends down where the animal's body should be. The fabric is adhered(?) to the hands and head, and wrapped with shiny red ribbon at the wrists and neck, and across the ox's nose. The man is attached by several black strings to a wooden control bar composed of a single long piece of wood with one cross-bar.

Hand Puppet3352/5

Mamulengo hand puppet of 'Chota e filho' or woman and child characters. Heads and hands are carved from wood and painted. Both characters have orange-beige skin. The woman has chin-length painted black hair with attached bow decorations on the left side, and red nails. The woman's fabric body / tunic has a solid yellow top, and skirt with matching sleeves of a red with purple flowers, green polka dots and yellow hearts fabric. The fabric is adhered(?) to the hands and head, and wrapped with shiny dark pink ribbon at the wrists and neck of the woman, and shiny light blue ribbon around the cuffs of the child. The son is wearing a dark blue floral shirt, and dark green floral pants. Operated by inserting a hand inside the body of the puppet to control its head and movements.

Hand Puppet3352/1 a-c

Mamulengo hand puppet of a 'Boizinho' or bull character. The body is carved from wood and painted. The bull (part a) is black with white spots with two long brown horns that extend forwards. Where the legs should be, it's covered by a long multi-coloured fabric skirt. The skirt is composed of four strips of fabric, each with a different pattern - the top section is yellow with large pink flowers, then shiny gold, then red with blue flowers, and then purple shiny fabric. There are neon ribbons hanging from the horns, as well as a single strip around the top of the skirt. A long black tail of a triangle of black fabric and black hair extends down the back. Operated by inserting a hand inside the body of the puppet to control its head and movements. The puppet can be placed on a stand - stick (part b) and base (part c).

Hand Puppet3381/20

Mechanical hand puppet of a couple (one male, one female) each holding a pestle, working in the same central mortar. The mortar and platform are carved from wood and painted red-brown. The woman has pink skin. She wears a long dress that is green with yellow, red and orange flowers, a blue jacket with red flowers and yellow hearts, and a yellow floral scarf over her long, curly black hair. The man has orange skin. He wears a long sleeved green floral shirt, and blue pants. They both have painted black boots. Operated by two connected rods that are attached to each puppet's torso to control their arm movements.

Hand Puppet3381/19 a-b

Mamulengo hand puppet of a 'Caboclo de Pena' character (part a), with a large feather headdress (part b). Carved from wood and painted. He has light orange-beige skin, wide black eyes, small nose with large nostrils, and an open mouth with thin red lips. He holds a white flower in his mouth. He wears shiny red leggings with neon pink ribbon around the cuffs, with purple and neon green feathers tucked in the ribbon. He wears a speckled brown-grey feather skirt with a poncho overtop. The poncho is heavily sequined with a dark pink background and flower design in green, blue, gold, red, pink and bronze. Each sequin has a clear bead sewn at at centre. The poncho is lined with long white tassels. He wears a headdress (part b) with woven base wrapped in shiny dark pink fabric, decorated with gold star sequins around the centre and light green ribbon around the edges. Tall feathers extending up from the band, with brightly dyed feathers around the outer edge, and tall natural feathers at centre. He holds an axe in his right hand with various coloured ribbons wrapped around the staff down the entire length. His boots are painted black.

Hand Puppet3381/18

Mamulengo hand puppet of a 'Caboclo de lança' (warrior with spear) character. Carved from wood and painted. He has light pink skin, small nose, small moustache and an open mouth with thin red lips. He holds a small white flower in his mouth. He wears a shiny gold outfit with a sequined and beaded poncho overtop. The front design features a blue upper half with a red, green and gold rainbow over a gold dot at centre, and a white lower half with a red cross at centre. Each sequin has a clear bead sewn at centre. The poncho is lined with tassels, alternating between red and gold-yellow. On his head, he wears a red headdress with shiny plastic garland in blue, gold and red and a light blue chin strap. Under the back of poncho, he wears a board covered in orange fabric, with two metal bells attached to each lower corner. He holds a long flag in his left hand consisting of various brightly coloured ribbons wrapped around the staff down the entire length. His boots are painted black.

Mamulengo hand puppet of a 'Chica' character. Carved from wood and painted. She has black skin, wide dark green eyes, and a slightly open mouth with dark red lips. She wears a dress made of two different floral-patterned fabrics with orange ribbon lining the neckline and belting the waist, and a dark teal ribbon with orange lace around the cuffs and along the hem of each layer of the skirt. She has long brown hair that is tied back with a scarf. She holds a round woven basket in her hands. Her boots are painted brown.
