Spindle WhorlSf682

Fouteen spindle whorls threaded on handspun cotton yarn; six are convexly conical, of incised black on orange ceramic; one is flat ceramic disc; four are globular or conical stone (?), these are green (three) and yellow (one). One of the green is half missing and two are decorated with drilled, dotted circles. The yellow is plain. Two whorls are made of yellow shell; one truncated biconical whorl is made of metal and is now covered in green deposit. All whorls have a central hole.

A five strand necklace with two stands now broken. The small disc shaped beads alternate in groups of black stone beads with groups or orange or purple shell beads. The shell beads frequently have two white beads as borders. The beads are threaded on hand spun brown cotton cords. The fastening cords are re-plied and thus larger in scale. Part b is a few beads that have fallen off the broken strands and are now threaded on monofilament.

A spherical, gold bead constructed from two hemispheres of sheet metal joined at the equator. Two punched holes, one at each pole. Approximately half of the golden surface is covered with red/brown deposits.

29 hollow, golden beads of various shapes. There are six spherical beads in three different sizes and 14 convexly biconical beads in four size groupings. Five tabular beads, also hollow, have a recessed outline and convex centre on both faces. Four ellipsoid beads are rolled.

93 globular, golden beads in three sizes strung on synthetic monofilament. The 9 large beads and 2 small beads are shinier than the 82 medium sized beads which are more tarnished. Some of the medium sized beads have traces of red pigment. The beads are constructed of two half spheres of metal that are forced together around the equator of the bead. These beads are precisely cut and joined at the seam.

Wooden staff with finial in the form of a standing male, holding a cup and carrying two large ears of corn on his back. The face and chest have the remains of a dark red resin-like paint. Fragments of copper or copper alloy sheeting adhere in several places and many metal tacks protrude from the front and back of the figure. A bright red-orange band of paint encircles the staff a few inches below the finial. The bottom of the staff is broken off.

A triangular, pressure flaked point with rounded end (part a), detached from its wooden handle (part b). The blade is a brown, fine grained, volcanic stone. Many turns of cotton cord is wrapped around the base of the blade, obscuring whether or not it is notched, and wraps the fragments of the wooden handle which once straddled the blade. Handle has a bi-conical drill hole near the rounded end. Impressions of cord along the entire length of the handle.

Circular stone with a large hole in the middle and six projection points around the circumference. The projections are conical but rounded in contour. The finished brown stone has a yellowish cast. The central hole is convex in shape, flaring out at both openings
