Gourd Bowl3592/5

Large pyro-engraved gourd bowl. Exterior convex side, intricately carved with trees, flowers, birds, toads, a bird's nest, a fox and two hunters, one of which is firing on a raptor with a gun, and the other a slingshot firing at a squirrel. The base has a large white eight-petaled flower design within a circle of cross-hatching. Under the rim is a band with 'POR MAX INGA A' and ' ARTE DEL PERU' between plaited design.

Decorated Gourd3592/3 a-b

Pyro-engraved gourd container (part a) with lid (part b). The container and lid are intricately carved. The container has a horizontal panel that extends around the circumference depicting a scene of musicians, and people dancing. Below, a thin band with a plaited design with the word ARTE on one side, and PERUANO on the opposite side. The base has a six-point star with an eight-petaled flower within. Between the points of the star are various animals: goat, toad, bull, fox with chicken, raptor with snake, and tall slender bird. At the centre of the flower is carved 'Max Inga A, Piura, Peru '78'. The lid is carved with flower motifs, and has a flower-like base that is cut directly out of the gourd.

Short, red-purple woman's jacket with front opening and two pockets. Cuffs are bordered with black bands and green trim; green trim along edges of front opening. Black cloth stitched to sides of front opening, on elbows and top edge of pockets; imitating lapels, elbow patches and pocket flaps respectively. Curvilinear and geometric motifs embroidered around opening and on all black fabric; white button decorations throughout embroidery.

Fragment: Headdress3263/83 a-e

Fragments from a headdress. Consists of feather plume (part a) and reed shards (parts b-e). Shards are likely from the headdress structure. All reeds have slightly curved interiors and are brown-orange in colour. Plume made up of long white, purple and green feathers. Majority of feather quills are wrapped in beige thread. Ends of quills twined together.

Fragment of a mantle or shroud. Rectangular in shape with grid pattern across entire surface. Grid squares have alternating vertical and horizontal stripe patterns. Stripes done in white-brown and dark brown. Textile stitched to cream coloured fabric, secured to off-white matboard.

Sling3263/61

Complete sling. Cradle is red and has a short split in the centre. Border of cradle is a wide band with alternating dark yellow and red triangles. Border edged with dark green thread along the top edge, towards the right side. Handles are solid grey braids. Sections on both braids, closest to the cradle, have red diamonds outlined in dark yellow. Right braid ends with red tassel. Left braid ends with white wool worked into the grey braid, and a white tassel.

Sling3263/62

Naturally coloured complete sling. Cradle has a long split in the centre. Left and right tapering sections covered with brown thread. Middle of cradle also covered with brown thread, on either side of the split. Both handles are braided. Left handle's braid is thick near the cradle before narrowing. Handle ends with a tassel of loose fibres. Right handle has black thread braided close to the cradle, before returning to naturally coloured. Handle ends with a plied cord.

Fragment: Sling3263/54

Fragment of a sling. Cradle is light brown and has a central split. Edges of cradle are red-brown. Stitches for border clearly visible and move inward, towards the split. Handles are light and red-brown braids. Each have two rows of red-brown diamonds. Space between the rows forms a light brown zigzag along the top and bottom sides of the handles. Right handle extends into a tight red-brown braid. End of left handle is missing.

Fragment: Sling3263/56

Fragment of a sling. Cradle is light brown and has an alternating red-brown and light brown diamond pattern. Diamond pattern outlined in dark brown. Through diamond design is a central split. Tapering sides of cradle have dark brown vertical stripes. Cradle ends with thick dark brown bands. Handles are thin solid braids with two rows of diamonds along the sides. Space between the rows forms a zigzag pattern along the top and bottom sides of the handles.
