Unfinished Hat1593/23

Rectangular shaped unfinished woven wool hat with lines of cream coloured patterns on an alternating red and navy striped ground. The designs consist of circles, x-shapes, birds and flowers with green, pink, blue, yellow and orange detailing. Intertwined in the incomplete top are five, long metal knitting needles.

HatSf389

A black lenticular-shaped hat with a wide flat brim and a small crown. Top brim surface is decorated with four embroidered flowers that have leaves and stems arranged in reflective symmetry in each quarter. Two brightly coloured tassels are attached to the junction of the brim and crown on opposite sides. The underside of the brim is covered with bright pink cloth surrounded by purple cloth. The brim is stiffened with an inner form of bound grass and an outer form of wire. A pink cord is attached to the underside as a chin tie.

JacketSf388

Short black wool jacket with full sleeves and a neckline cut low in front. Sleeves have a snug cuff with a bold design of triangles in bright pink yarns. The jacket fronts below the neckline are decorated with pleated panels which have a faded pink meandering line of yarns sewn on top. The same pink yarns encircle the neck and form boxes around the meanders. Two sets of wool twine that tie the jacket together.

Rectangular black cloth with a multi-coloured yarn tassel on each corner. Narrow crocheted edging alternating bright colours extends across the two hemmed ends and partially around the corners. The colours are shades of red, orange, yellow, green and blue.

Short black jacket with long sleeves and a half collar. The jacket is decorated with four coloured tassel-like ties in pink, green and yellow arranged on each side of the front opening and the sleeve hems are edged with coloured crochet. The lower jacket edge and collar have white facings.

LoomSf1018 a-g

Loom (part a-g) consisting of a partly woven belt with unwoven warps, attached shedding devices and accompanying wooden and bone tools. The symmetrically striped warp and belt section has three chevron bands flanked by rainbow colour stripes set against a dark red ground. There are cylindrical loom bars at each end; the bottom bar is part c. In the middle are three sticks with string heddles and a shed roll (part b). In addition, there is one stick with a flattened point and another straight (part d), round stick for rolling the cloth (part e). Two small skeins of blue yarn extend from each side of the woven web at the final row. There is a slightly smoothed bone pick (part f) and a length of brown cords (part g) is used to tie the bundle together.
