Shoulder Cloth2787/11

Shoulder cloth (selendang) of songket brocade. Hand loomed purple cotton cloth with continuous supplementary weft of silver wrapped cotton yarn creating rows of intricate floral motifs. Long fringe at both ends, one of which is finished off with a solid woven band of green.

Ceremonial cloth2787/9

Ceremonial cloth in of songket brocade. Warp is red cotton, weft is purple silk, and the continuous and discontinuous supplementary weft is gold wrapped cotton thread. The centre motif of a traditional adat house is flanked by four karabau, or buffalo heads. The framing border of alternating gold filled squares and purple squares with crosses is thicker at the corners.

Textile with a batik pattern and a dark brown fringe at both ends. The centre of the textile has a geometric pattern on purple ground and this is surrounded by a dark brown floral pattern with parallel lines at the ends, all on an orange ground. The long edges are finished with handmade gold thread edging.

Figure in centre is blue, with four smaller figures in blue and red below. Repeated watercraft motifs, alternating in red and yellow, with figures in red, yellow, and blue below large image; watercraft also above large image, in red with blue insects(?). Two red scorpions also above large image. Border of red, yellow, and blue waves along both selvedges. Blue scroll pattern on one end, figure shapes on other.

Baby carrier composed of dark blue fabric with a dark red border and bands of repeated off-white lines that taper towards the ends, as well as bands of geometric multicoloured embroidery. Each end has a fringe and is beaded with bands of geometric pattern in white, blue, green and orange glass beads. The sides are decorated with a multicoloured strand of beads.

Spouted wood piece stained red-brown with an elaborately carved handle, stained red-brown. The upper portion has a cylindrical spout that connects to the handle across a central ridge over the top. The handle is square in cross section, curving upward and backward and upward. Underneath the outer concave curve of the handle, there is a slim carved piece. The lower portion is cylindrical and tapers downward.
