Case consisting of two cylinders of tortoise shell, encased in embossed silver at top and bottom. Knife with handle (part b) of translucent grey-green stone, tapered from top; embossed steel blade (part c) is loose. Pair of bone chopsticks (parts d-e) with silver encased ends and silver knobs at top. Flat ear pick (part f) of bone with silver band near wider end.
Woodblock, or print block. Rectangular-shaped brown and black wood block with three rows of characters carved in relief and raised on surface. The top and bottom lines are in the Lantsa Sanskrit script and the middle line bears the mantra in Tibetan script, which may be transliterated as **||Om mani padme hum|. Thinly carved border around entire frame.
Square metal box (part b) with lid (part a). The box lid is gold-coloured metal with chips of turquoise arranged in a double outline of two concentric squares with a round design in the middle. Off of each side, there are triangular projections, two of which are inlaid with little turquoise stones while the other pair are bare. Underneath one inlaid triangle, there is a cylindrical loop, and under the other, there is an oval metal piece with a tiny ring attached. The box is grey metal and square with only two raised sides.
Central spoke running through two inverted crown-shaped structures, both attached at centre by a flattened globe. Each crown-shaped part has four outside curved bars with plant motifs and a plain inner spoke.
Boot with thick brown leather sole and off-white woven foot area, with discoloured black suede on toe and heel; green stripe of leather runs from toe up the front of boot; multi-coloured striped cotton forms wide band around ankle area; upper boot made from heavy black-blue wool, with red strip attached around upper edge and split in back.
Tibetan payer wheel with wooden handle and metal pin (part a). A metal and jade wheel (part b) with two tiers of inlaid glass sits over the pin, with a ball and chain that hangs to one side. Inside the wheel is a rolled paper (part d) with writing on it. At the top of the prayer wheel sits a metal conical top (part c) with metal decorations and two tiers of inlaid glass.
Woman’s(?) black, floor length, a-line, sleeveless dress with standing collar and side closure. Made of heavy, very densely woven wool textile. The left side front overlaps the right side front; it fastens at centre front neckline, then overlaps the right side and fastens under the right armhole with a green plastic button and white fabric loop. The collar, front edge, armholes and hem are faced with strips of off-white silk brocade. Hand stitched. Unlined.
Object is a long, yellow-orange, brocade robe. Robe is decorated with images of dark red and light pink lotus blossoms and bats, located symmetrically on front. Large lotus blossom on back of robe. Robe has an overlapping front with one metal ball-and-loop fastener. Underflap has grey geometric patterns on it. Robe has long and tapered sleeves.
Man’s short multicoloured ceremonial jacket constructed from a patchwork of colourful brocade textiles and trimmed at collar and cuffs with velvet. The jacket is voluminous, with very long sleeves; a T-shaped garment with centre front opening, without closures or fasteners. The front opening is finished with a very wide border (approximately 23.5 cm), which extends to the back of the jacket to form a high collar at centre back. This border consists of four different bands: a 2.7 cm wide band of striped, multicoloured embroidery; a 10 cm wide band of red silk brocade embellished with gold metallic figures of cranes and Chinese(?) characters; a 5.6 cm wide band of finely embroidered blue, green, red, pink and white stitchery in a T-shaped repeated motif; and a 5.1 cm wide band of black cotton velvet textile. The same multicoloured embroidery and black velvet is used to finish the cuffs. The jacket is lined with blue and red light weight silk brocade.
Man’s brown silk brocade vest has a high collar and side front opening with button and loop closures. The vest fastens with gilt metal ball-shaped buttons, one at the neck at centre front; the left side of the vest front extends to completely overlap the right side, and there are buttons and loops at the right upper chest, under the right armhole and halfway down the right side seam. The brown silk brocade textile has a satiny sheen, and there are large (12 cm) brown, floral roundels in a contrasting pile weave, regularly spaced over the surface. A small patch pocket made of silk brocade that matches the vest in colour but not in design is located at chest level on the right side of the vest front, concealed underneath the front closure. The vest is lined in lightweight green silk brocade. There are 9 cm slits in the side seams at the hemline.
