Hitori musume ni muko hachinin (Eight Bridegrooms for One Daughter)N2.1163 a-b

Two piece woodblock print showing eight small male figures (part a) and one large female figure (part b). The men are on the left, in various positions, wearing clothing that has striped, dotted, checkered, and floral patterns in light blue, grey, yellow, purple, and black. Four men are holding fans, two men have a hand under their chins; one man has both hands crossed under his chin, and one man is admiring himself in a rectangular mirror. The female on the right is resting on the ground leaning against a table, looking toward the men. She is holding a scroll and is wearing clothing that has a light blue and dark blue diamond shape pattern on a white background covered with a red and yellow pattern. The ground is green, the background is white, and the top is blue. Above the female, there are black characters. In each lower right corner, there is a vertically rectangular black seal of the publisher (版元, hanmoto), a pair of circular black censor seals known as nanushi-in (名主印), one type of censor seal, and black writing in 'kanji'. The print is made of two vertically rectangular pieces, creating a horizontally rectangular image overall.

Shokunin Ezukushi: JinN2.1130 a-o

Volume III, titled "People", of a three volume set (with N2.1131, N2.1132). The volume has ten prints that illustrate various arts. All are wood block printed in basic colours of orange, black, green, white, and gold. Many pages are detached from the binding. Each print is preceded by a title page with central Japanese characters indicating what is depicted in the print. Translations are in pencil below these characters. The first print (part i) is titled “Sword Maker”. It depicts a household scene with an old man sitting on the front terrace dipping something into a bucket of water while inside behind him, there are six other people behind him, four who are around a fire and two who are sitting at a long rectangular bench. The second print (part a) is titled “Arrow Maker” (part l). It depicts six men making arrows: two inside a house, two kneeling on the terrace, and two outside. The third (part c) is titled “A Maker of Lacquer Work” (part b). It shows 5 people inside a house and one on an outer porch. All are performing tasks related to lacquer work. The fourth (part d) is titled “Carpenter” (part m) and it depicts six people involved in various aspects of carpentry. The fifth print (part e) titled “Tatami Maker” depicts seven people with two working outside on baskets and carpets, a woman on an outside bench caring for a child, a person carry water through the door, and the rest in the house. The next print (part f), “Embroidery Worker”, depicts five people with three women working around a table doing embroidery while a man is working on the right side on the top floor. Another man is appearing to doze while sitting on the bottom floor. The seventh print (part g) is called “Put on a Pattern” and it depicts nine people. Eight women are inside the house doing sewing work and one man is sitting on the outer terrace with a fan in his hand. The eighth (part j) is titled “Straw Worker” and it shows a man on a bed surrounded by hanging straw mats while a woman is carrying a bucket of water and a tray of food toward him. The last (part h) is called “Bag Maker with Fur” (part k). It depicts six people in a house with many animal skins hanging on the left wall. Three people are inside working with fur three are outside on the terrace, two men working on objects and another kneeling by their sides. Covers are parts n and o.

Volume II, titled "Earth", of a three volume set (with N2.1130, N2.1131). The volume has seven prints that illustrate various arts. All are wood block printed in basic colours of orange, black, green, white, and gold. Some pages are detached from the binding. Each print is preceded by a title page with central Japanese characters indicating what is depicted in the print. Translations are in pencil below these characters. The first page (part a) depicts two men and two women making fans while one woman is on the floor approaching one of the female fan makers and one man is holding a tether to a gong hanging on the right side. The second page (part b) depicts three men making furniture. One loose page (part c) depicts two men sword sharpening while a woman is in another room, a man is carrying baskets through the front, another man is carrying a sword out in the front, and another man is holding a long object over his right shoulder. Another loose page (part d) depicts three men making bows while two others watch. The next page (part e) depicts two men making rosaries and an elderly woman. The following page (part f) depicts two men working on metal and a woman watching at the back. The last page (part g) depicts two men and six women spinning and weaving to make clothes.

Doll is ceremonially attired in complete costume, including sandals, a red with silver and gold kimono, pink floral kimono, red and white patterned kimono, a yellow sash, a black patterned wide waist sash, red cord around the torso, silver collar. Black synthetic hair tied with silver and red paper, purple fabric flowers in hair. Wears round black with gold hat tied under chin with red fringed cord. Holds paper violet flowers in left hand. Body is white, stands on a painted black, wooden base.
