Basket Lid3131/11

Basket lid made of a slightly rounded, rectangular piece of birch bark. The top is densely covered in quills set in geometric patterns of primarily traingles with partial circles and diamonds, dyed in shades of brown with some remnants of green. Thin strips of bark are looped around the edges of the piece, holding in place long quills that create a decorative edging. The underside is undecorated.

Bag3131/3

Mirror bag. Small rectangular bag is made from pliable light grey suede on the front, with beaded decoration showing birds, flowers and foliage, a short fringe attached along the sides. The back is made from parfleche, painted in lines of blue, red, yellow and green. The bag narrows slightly toward the bottom, where a fringe wrapped in pink and light tan plastic hangs, finished with small cone shaped pieces of metal wrapped around tufts of red feathers. A handle is short sewn to top corners of bag by suede thongs, and edged in green beading. Long strands of beading are attached to the bottom corners, upper sides, and along the bag handle, also finished with metal wrapped feather tufts. The interior of the bag is lined in unbleached cotton.

Chilkat Robe3131/1

Chilkat style robe with woven designs and fringe. The design is in three panels, with an ancestor face in the middle and animal motifs above, below and to the sides. The design is yellow, light blue and dark brown on natural ground. A long twisted fringe of mixed wool and cedar bark hangs from the bottom. Two cotton ties are sewn to the top, along with eight (non-original) cotton twill hanging loops.

Engraved with repeating pattern of circles, with a dot in the middle, down the centre and straight and diagonal lines carved along the edges. Drilled holes top four of the pairs of lines on one side of the band. Two lines around the band separate the three patterns.

Large, heavy jar. Wide open mouth narrows at neck, then flares in middle before tapering to small flat circular base. Black patterns painted over yellow background, forming rounded squares and triangles. Darts with leaf shaped ovals run around the neck of pot. Base and inside of pot are red clay. Unglazed.

Woven basket. Wide circular opening curves down to a flat circular base. Base decorated with an imbricated many-pointed two-level star capped by a circle. Solid imbricated band broken by a light and dark zigzag pattern rings the upper part of basket. Six patches of alternating light and dark coils spaced around rim.
