BasketA7189 a-b

Woven basket with spruce root warp and weft with aniline dyed grass. Base is mixed twined weaving (plain twined weaving alternating with wicker weave). Sides and lid are plain twined weaving with three strand false embroidered design. Central design of outlined "I" shapes in bright purple, bordered by bands of weaving with staggered black and natural weft strands. Lid (part b) has a similar design and a button-like knob on top.

A Lorraine Cross with double rounded terminals on the bars and at the bottom. Cloverleaf terminal at the top. Holes punched top and bottom, and lines engraved on the surface. Maker's mark stamped in a cartouche.
