Headband3052/6

Headband (part of a girl’s costume, with 3052/1-8). Strands of bright orange wool have been woven into a single loose braid and tied at each end. Three pompoms of bright orange and dark orange wool are attached along the braid, the outer two solidly in place, the central one moveable.

Headband3052/5

Headband (part of a girl’s costume, with 3052/1-8). A thin metal wire is wrapped with brown paper and covered with a variety of stiffened flowers in red, blue, pink and white, interspersed with green leaves. Each red flower has a centre of black wool with spots of white paint, while white flowers have centres made of yellow wool. The wire band is bendable.

Belt3052/4

Woven belt (part of a girl’s costume, with 3052/1-8). Repeating patterns of diamonds in white, dark blue and dark green are woven along the length of the belt, between lines of red, green and blue ‘x’s, and short diagonal lines in white and blue. Long, thick, twisted multi-coloured fringe hangs from each end. Back is distinguishable from front by weave.

Skirt Panels3052/3 a-b

Two skirt panels (part of a girl’s costume, with 3052/1-8). Panels are identical, made of homespun wool with dense horizontal stripes in red, yellow, green and black, with single gold threads woven into the black. At bottom, a thick stripe holds flowers embroidered in the gold thread, edged by linear designs. The panels are finished at bottom and side edges in dark red wool.

Under Skirt3052/2

Knee length cotton skirt for wearing under a wool skirt (part of a girl’s costume, with 3052/1-8). Made of thick, cream coloured cotton, with an elasticised waist. The bottom hem is embellished with a thick panel of white cutwork in a floral design, and includes over-embroidery in shiny white thread.

Blouse3052/1

Long sleeved blouse (part of a girl’s costume, with 3052/2-8). Made of thick, cream coloured cotton, with wide sleeves heavily embroidered in diagonal lines in a deep purple and yellow flower motif on a green background. The cuffs are embroidered with cutwork. The neck is a ‘v’ style, with embroidered collar similar to the motifs on the sleeves. The hem of the blouse is cut slightly longer on the outside.

Apron2969/2

Black velvet, emabroidered apron, rectangular with two thin cotton strips for waist ties at top. On the black velvet panel are embroidered four lines of design, the first red and pink flowers with green foliage, then a stylized line of blue, pink and yellow flowers with swirling green and purple foliage, then a line of red and yellow roses with green foliage and rosebuds, and finally a blue and yellow zigzag pattern with a blue and red hanging tassel motif. Throughout the embroidery are scattered silver sequins with white glass beads. A black synthetic fringe has been sewn onto the bottom edge.

Vest2969/1

Black velvet embroidered vest. The front is covered by embroidered wildflowers in many sizes and colours including large red flowers near the bottom, and small orange, blue or pink sprays at the top, all surrounded by green foliage. Many of the flowers, leaves and vines are embellished with colourful sequins and beads. The vest front is open and has a V-neck, with two small closing snaps located beneath. The inside is lined with a black rayon(?) fabric.

Textile456/15

A rectangular off-white textile piece with wide bands of embroidery at one end covering about half the length. Multi-coloured geometric designs worked in counted thread technique. The main design is consisting of a central wide band of diamond shapes bordered by red while having an orange dot outlined with a green diamond shape within each inner corner surrounding an orange and yellow radiating centre. Filling in the space at either sides of these diamond shapes bordered by red, there are diamond shapes surrounded by red L-shaped protrusions in various directions while having a pair of orange and a pair of yellow cross shapes in a black diamond shape within each inner corner separated by sections of green surrounding a double black cross shape with a yellow centre on an orange-red background. From the side points of the diamond shapes bordered by red, emanate two lines of yellow, green, orange, and orange-red cross shapes outlined by black. This central wide band has a thinner band at each side consisting of one-quarter of the design of the central wide band and separated from it by three double black cross shapes with a coloured centre. Selvages on both sides. Ends are unfinished.

Apron456/6 d

An apron made from a rectangular panel of heavy cotton textile. Has woven horizontal multi-coloured bands with geometric designs on a brown background. The main design is consisting of a pattern with four narrow bands interspersed between three wide bands and two more narrow bands near the end where the tie are located. The narrow bands have a design consisting of a central red and black line outlined by yellow, green, and red, and bordered by black squares. The wide bands have a main design consisting of a central four-stepped or a Y-shaped interconnected coloured pieces band with the colours of orange, green, red, and yellow outlined by black, yellow, green, red, and bordered by a yellow and green chain-link-like pattern on a black background. Brown fringe at the bottom with a hem at the top. Brown cotton cord is fed through the top hem with allowance to form ties, each of which at the end, has a tassel.
